Obituary

Aisha Aakiya Shaw was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 11, 1977, to Ruby Jene Shaw and Jessie Lee Shaw.

Aisha graduated from Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas in 1995 where she was a gifted student in Advanced Placement classes. In addition to her academic dedication, she was a member of the Lake Highlands High School Colorguard and Marching Band. She was also an officer of the Black Multicultural Awareness Club (BMAC) and the BMAC Steppers.  Her infectious energy was on full display as the school's Pep Rally MC where she often hyped up the crowd by performing her signature move, the Running Man dance.  After high school, Aisha attended Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, TX from 1995-1996. She pledged Kappa Kourt Social Club, the "little sisters" to Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. Aisha thereafter transferred to the University of Houston where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance. She later worked as a Freelance Literary Editor.

Aisha's passion for the creative world was always at the forefront. Blessed with a beautifully powerful voice, Aisha grew up singing in the church choir and at talent shows. In her early adulthood, she performed at various Houston area venues including the Red Cat Jazz Café and would go on to be selected and flown to Tennessee for a singing competition. As a self-taught guitarist, Aisha wrote and composed copious amounts of music and poetry. A lover of all genres of music, her favorite band was Deftones.

Aisha dreamed of being a model and her statuesque frame eventually led her to walk the runways of New York. She began her modeling career in Houston with Page Parkes Modeling Agency and Neil Hamil Agency where she also served as a makeup instructor. Ever the dreamer and fearless adventurer, she then boldly moved to New York City to further pursue her modeling ambitions.  While in New York, Aisha was featured as a model in various publications and hair campaigns including Essence Magazine and Visible Changes. She also ultimately fulfilled her dreams by walking the runways as a model in the prestigious New York Fashion Week. Her talent at makeup artistry further landed her positions with Mac Cosmetics, Bobbie Brown, Chanel at Saks Fifth Avenue and as a freelance makeup artist assisting in several New York Fashion Weeks.

Aisha loved fashion, makeup, music, and all things Barbie. She collected rare versions of the dolls and decorated her home as her own version of a "Barbie Apartment". She was carefree yet still charmingly particular. Her favorite color was that elusive lovely shade of pink that lies only between fuchsia and purple. She was a lover of animals, having adopted two dogs and two cats that she cared for with great affection. Her sense of humor was unmatched, her thirst for knowledge was boundless. She had a wise soul with a young spirit. She treasured spending time with her family and friends, especially jumping tirelessly on the trampoline with her beloved niece Terran.

Aisha entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 31, 2024. She was preceded in death by Aunt Lena Scott and Uncle Tommy Scott. She is survived by her mother Ruby Shaw and father Jessie Shaw; sister Sakinah McQuillon; brother-in-law Terrance McQuillon and nieces Terran McQuillon and Brea McQuillon; and her boyfriend Tommy Rieth.

Aisha's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.  She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.  We love you, Aisha!
