Blair
Apr 2, 1931 — Feb 8, 2026
Albert Lee Blair was born April 2, 1931, in Malakoff, Texas, to Allie & Franklin Blair. He attended school in St Paul. He left for college in Houston, Texas, and attended Texas State College for Negros (currently known as Texas Southern University). He was drafted and served in the United States Army. He also served for three years during the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged, he used the GI Bill to reenroll at TSU and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Electronics. During this time, he worked at Bessie's Sweet Shop, delivering groceries. He was mentored by Frank Stabler, the store's owner, who taught him financial management. He was a homeowner, met and married Earlyn Nelson in 1956. They had 3 children: Allison Lenore, Franklin Kelvin, and George Kervin. A customer encouraged him to apply to the Houston Police Department. He was accepted and began as a Patrolman in 1957. Officer Albert Blair and his partner, Charles F. Howard, became the first African American officers to receive the department's highest honor after solving a series of bus hijackings. He went on to work in Criminal Intelligence, legal services, and Dignitary Detail. He, along with the Secret Service and FBI, protected every president from President Lyndon B Johnson to President Bill Clinton. He was a personal attaché to the Chief of Police, Sam Nucci, and to Chief of Police CO "Brad" Bradford. He retired in 1999 after 42 years of distinguished service. Upon retirement, he became more involved with Greater St Matthew MBC. An intergenerational fellowship that encouraged his Christian growth, discipleship, and enthusiasm. He became a deacon on February 25th, 2001, and was very active with the senior citizens of the congregation, the food pantry, and the security team. He is preceded in death by his wife, Earlyn; his two sisters, Lorine and Corine; his brother, Algie; his son, Franklin (Lisa); and his grandson, Nicolas. He is survived by his daughter, Allison, and his son, George (Jeanie). His grandchildren are Alicia , John, Shaun, and Chelsea (Hondrea). His great-granddaughter Aaliyah, who was fondly referred to as "That sweet baby!" We will miss and remember his wit, wisdom, and empathy for all mankind.
