Obituary

Alma Dean Smith, the sixth child of seven children, the baby girl, bloomed on
November 9,1944 to the late Waverly Jefferson, Sr. and Eula Mae Jefferson.
Alma was chosen July 9, 2024. Her husband, James "Jim" Smith; sister,
Barbara J. Jefferson; and bonus daughter, Yolanda Smith proceeded her in
death.
Alma accepted Christ at an early age, at Rising Star Baptist Church in
Wharton, Texas. She was a devoted member at Christian Home Missionary
Baptist Church where she served, faithfully, in the Women's Ministry until
her transition.
Alma graduated from Hungerford High School where she played basketball
her 8th through 12th grade years. She graduated from Hungerford High
School in 1963; then continued her education at Prairie View A&M University.
Alma was always supportive, attentive and gave wise advice only if you
asked. She touched many lives of young children and their parents throughout
our community. Her anointed hands nurtured many heads of hair and
minds. Alma was known as Alma Dean, Deany, Mrs. Alma, Mrs. Smith or
MawMaw; some even called her momma or granny. If you knew her you just
knew she loved everyone, and everyone loved her.
Alma planted strong roots to stand on. She leaves to flourish: 3 daughters,
Kimberly Smith- Ferguson, Ketti Bradley (Raymond), Katonia Omandi, all of
Houston, Texas; 1 bonus daughter, Jacqueline A. Smith of Houston, Texas;
6 grandchildren, Ularn Jerell Smith-Williams, Ariel Ferguson, Ezell Nosa,

(Mary) of Houston, Texas, Reverend Delbert R. Jefferson of Richmond,
Texas, Waverly Jefferson, Jr. (Lois) of Angleton, Texas, Reverend Dr. Lee
Roy Jefferson (Jeanette) of Perth Amboy, NJ; 1 God-sister/cousin, Michelle

(Floyd) of Baytown, Texas and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.
