Alonzo Byrd

Alonzo Byrd, lovingly known to family and friends as "Lonzo," was born on March 11, 1960, in Houston, Texas, to the late Earnest Sr. and Occie Lee Byrd.

Lonzo received his education through the Houston Independent School District and attended Sterling High School. It was during his high school years, while spending time at the neighborhood gathering place known as the SPN, that he met the love of his life, Linda (Jeannette). Their friendship blossomed into a beautiful love story that would span a lifetime. Together they welcomed two wonderful children, later united in marriage, and built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

To know Lonzo was to know a man with a generous heart and a compassionate spirit. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, a caring brother, a trusted mentor, a loyal friend, and a source of strength for so many. His warm smile, infectious laughter, kind heart, and quiet wisdom had a way of making everyone around him feel welcomed, valued, and loved. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or share a moment of joy with those around him.

Family was the center of Lonzo's life. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. His greatest accomplishments were not measured by possessions or achievements, but by the love he gave so freely and the lives he touched so deeply.

Lonzo was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Earnest Sr. and Occie Lee Byrd; his sisters, Earnestine Byrd, Glenda Faye Byrd, Lorrene Byrd, Theresa Byrd, and Margaret Brooks; his brothers-in-law’s, Nathaniel Brooks and Dean Shaw.

Although our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in the beautiful legacy he leaves behind. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeannette Byrd; his beloved son, Alonzo "Boo" Fletcher; and his cherished daughter, Shalinda "Poosie" Byrd. He also leaves to honor his legacy his bonus daughter, Lisa (Donald) Shannon, whom he loved as his own.

His love continues through his five treasured grandchildren: Alonzo "AJ," Bria, Alonja "Midda," Chanel, and Amari "Choppa," who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He was blessed with four precious great-grandchildren: Xavier, Autumn, August, and Austin, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Lonzo leaves to cherish his memory his loving siblings: Zelma (Orvell) Washington, Leathia (Melvin) Powell, Evelina (Wilbert) Green, Earnest (Vondell) Byrd Jr., Nathaniel Byrd, Gwendolyn Simmons, and Diane Byrd Shaw, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, and all whose lives were forever enriched by knowing him.

Though Lonzo's earthly journey has come to an end, the love he shared, the wisdom he imparted, and the example he set will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy is one of faith, love, compassion, generosity, and unwavering dedication to family.

As we celebrate his remarkable life, we find comfort in knowing that while he may be gone from our sight, he will never be gone from our hearts. His memory will forever be a blessing, and his spirit will continue to guide, inspire, and watch over those he loved.

His smile will be remembered.

His laughter will be missed.

His love will never be forgotten.
