Obituary

We celebrate the life of Alvin Lee Gooden, who left us peacefully on August 27, 2024, at the age of 88.  Alvin was born on September 18, 1935, to Edward and Janie Gooden (proceeded in death) in Bayou Chicot, Louisiana. He was the middle childe of three, with his older brother Charles (proceeded in death) and younger sister Willard.  Alvin attended Morning Pilgrim Baptist Church, in Chicot where he was baptized by Rev. L. P. Pointer.

Alvin completed his education in Ville Platte, LA graduating from James Stephens High School before embarking on a fulfilling career and family life.  On December 28, 1957, Alvin married the love of his life, Pearl Woods.  Together, they welcomed three children: Steve, Abdul Samir, Gooden (Carol), Vicky G, Branch, and Phyllis Gooden.  Alvin was a devoted father who cherished every moment with his family, often taking them on memorable road trips across Texas and Louisiana.

Known affectionately as "Paw Paw", Alvin's legacy continues through his seven grandchildren: Idris Arvie, Imani Gooden Pride (Tyler), Bashiri Gooden, Amir Gooden, Jhavik Branch, Victoria-Pearl Young, and Alexander Young.  He is also survived by four great grandchildren: Jaelyn Branch, Jurnee Branch,, Quanah Wright, and Olivia Wright.  Alvin's professional journey spanned over four decades as a dedicated truck driver with companies such as Midwest Street, New Process, and as an owner-operator of two big rigs.  After retiring, Alvin pursued his passion for travel, exploring Texas the broader United States.  He remained actively engages in community life, enjoying time at the YMCA, fishing, and supporting his grandchildren's endeavors.

Alvin Lee Gooden will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his adventurous spirit, and his generosity of heart.  His memory will live on in the lives he touched and the stories shared by those who knew and loved him.
