OBITUARY
Annie Bell "Betty" Barron was born on July 20, 1930, in Alto, Texas, to the late Frank and Pertha Barron. She was baptized at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Alto. Betty attended Alto Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1950. In addition to her academic and spiritual foundation, Betty was known for her vibrant involvement in school life.
She was an avid Wildcat basketball player, earning many wins and trophies through her determination, athleticism, and competitive spirit. Equally gifted in the arts, she was an active participant and actor in school plays, where her presence, talent, and expressive nature made her a standout on stage. Her upbringing was rich with tradition, strong values, unwavering faith, and a work ethic that shaped her into a devoted Matriarch, Elder, Icon, Leader, Servant, and faithful vessel of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She continued her education at Butler College in Tyler, Texas, before moving to Houston, where she earned her cosmetology license and began a new chapter in her life. Betty later met and married Earl Mayberry, and together they welcomed seven children: Devoria (deceased), Renea, Evelyn, Betty, Medgar (deceased), Carolyn, and Dwayne. Their family grew to include grandchildren, great-grandchildren (Roshun deceased), and great greatgrandchildren (Autumn deceased), each one a cherished part of her legacy.
Betty possessed a remarkable gift for nurturing children and supporting families. She dedicated many years to providing domestic care before opening and operating her own inhome daycare, where she lovingly cared for countless children with patience, warmth, and devotion.
In the early 1960s, Betty united with Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. Bingham, remaining a devoted and active member throughout her life and continuing her service under the pastoral leadership of Rev. C. N. Washington. She served faithfully as a Mother of the Church, superintendent of Sunday School, and administrative secretary, and she contributed her time and gifts to numerous ministries within the Baptist Mission District. Her dedication was steady, heartfelt, and deeply influential in the life of the church community.
She leaves in God's loving care her children: Renea, Evelyn, Betty (Willie), Carolyn (Donald), and Dwayne; her goddaughters Connie and Linda; grandchildren Shalondra (Michael), Deleon, Roshenna, Roxanne, Earlkisha, Willicia, Alex, Willie II, Joshua, Jasmine, Christopher, C'Anfernee, Keith, Jovonte, Tiana, Jaina, Danny, Heaven, Kayla and Leondra (Christian II); nineteen greatgrandchildren; three great great grandchildren; special nephew Zac Session and many others whom she embraced as her own. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends who were blessed by her love, guidance, and presence.
