Obituary

We celebrate the life and legacy of Annie Marie Lake Littleton, who was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late John and Ruby Menefee Lake. As their only child, Annie Marie was deeply cherished and lovingly nurtured, developing a strong sense of independence, devotion, and care for others that would define her life.

Annie Marie received her early education at Ingersoll Elementary School and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1964, where she distinguished herself as a member of the award-winning marching band. During her senior year, she was honored as Miss Notre Dame (1963–1964)—a reflection of her poise, presence, and vibrant spirit. Her love for Notre Dame remained strong throughout her life, and she took great joy in reconnecting with classmates, especially at the All-Class Reunion in July 2025.

Continuing her pursuit of excellence, Annie Marie attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She carried her education into her professional life marked by excellence, precision, a nd dedication. Gifted with extraordinary administrative skills, she worked across multiple industries—including insurance, oil and gas, and the medical field—leaving a lasting impact wherever she served. She concluded her distinguished career as a Senior Administrative Assistant with Quest Diagnostics, from which she retired.

Annie Marie was blessed with love and companionship. She married Field E. Brooks on December 13, 1969. She would later unite with Burnie Foster Littleton, Sr. on April 11, 1993, who preceded her in death.

From an early age, Annie Marie was grounded in faith. She was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Shreveport under the leadership of Rev. Hartford Samuel James, beginning a lifelong relationship with Christ. In 2023, she united with Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, where she quickly became an active and engaged member. She faithfully served in the Cancer Ministry, where she used her creative gifts to make ribbons for various recognition days, blessing many with her thoughtfulness and care.

Annie Marie embraced life fully and joyfully. She was a woman of many talents and interests. She loved working with her hands, creating beautiful pieces through crochet, jewelry making, sewing, and wreath-making—many of which adorn the homes of family and friends. She had a passion for photography and scrapbooking, capturing and preserving cherished memories. Her love for music and dancing was evident, as she could often be found on the dance floor enjoying life. She also delighted in traveling and sightseeing, especially cruises, and believed in celebrating life—never missing an opportunity to host a joyful birthday gathering. Her commitment to community service and her fellowship with the Army of Sistahs Social and Riding Club reflected her love for connection and service.

Annie Marie will be fondly remembered for her straightforward honesty spoken in love, her sense of humor, and her deep loyalty to those she held dear. Annie Marie had a way of speaking truth with grace, loving fiercely, and standing faithfully beside those she cared about.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruby Lake; her beloved husband, Burnie Foster Littleton, Sr.; and her brother, Leonard Lake.

Though we grieve her passing, we rejoice in her legacy that remains with us. Annie Marie leaves to cherish her precious memory: her daughter, Renita (Warren) Scroggins; her son, Jonathan (Cassandra) Brooks; her granddaughters, Kaitlyn B. Scroggins and Kamr yn B. Scroggins; her stepdaughter, Angela (Lance) Courville; her special nephew, Marcellous Dunbar; and a host of extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and presence.
