Obituary

Arthur Gene Tone, Sr. was born on December 26, 1946, to Benjamin Tone and Odessia Nevels Tone in Houston, TX. Arthur is the firstborn of three children. He attended Jack Yates High School, class of 1966, and Community College. His nickname in school was "Jump Shot" because he had a mean jump shot. His hobbies were eating, traveling, and playing sports. He enjoyed watching sports and any crime TV shows and movies.

Arthur served in the US Army. He was a Lt. Vehicle Driver and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal Marksman (Rifle) where he was Honorably Discharged. After returning home, he worked several jobs before he was hired at the Houston Fire Department (HFD). He did not stay a fireman long; he soon was promoted to the HFD Arson division as an Arson Investigator.

He earned awards such as the City of Houston Arson Bureau Police Sharpshooter, FBI Certificate Specialized in White Collar Crime, Department of the Treasury Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms-Certified in Firearms and Explosives, Recipient of the Black Law Enforcement Officer Award, and multiple City of Houston Dedicated Service Awards. After retiring from the Houston Fire Department, Arthur owned several businesses - Tone's Cleaning Service, City Lights Night Club, and an Independent Limousine Driver for Carey Limousine contracted to drive some of the most famous athletes and superstars in the
United States.

Arthur "AG" Tone married Eloise Brooks in December of 1966. From that union came four children - Patricia Ann Tone, Arthur Gene Tone Jr. (Shelia), Christine Winn (Alfred), and Teresa Annette Tone. He has four grandchildren Kendall Tone, Courtney Tone, Jevon Tone, Sarah Winn, and four great grandchildren. He married two additional times. There were no children in this union.

He is survived by his sister Clarice Tone Bradford, and his brother Luster Tone of Houston, Texas. He leaves to mourn in his passing four children - Patricia, Arthur Jr., Christine, and Teresa. A niece and a nephew - Tina Hilliard and Byron Bradford, and a host of relatives and friends.

Arthur was cared for by his daughter Christine for the past 7 years until his peaceful transition on March 2, 2024.
