Obituary

Audrey Lee Jackson was born on December 6, 1944, in Pineville, Louisiana, to the  late Albert  Newton and  Bertha Lee Thomas. Though petite in stature at  just 4'10", Audrey was a woman of immense faith and strength. She spent most of her life in Houston, Texas, where she touched the hearts of many with her kindness, faith, and dedication to her community.

Audrey's journey of love began with her first husband, Herbert Garri son (deceased), with whom she shared a daughter, Bonita Garrison (deceased). After their marriage ended, Audrey was blessed to find love again with Gilbert Jackson of Houston, TX. The two married on April 18, 1989, and shared 25 wonderful years together until his passing.

A devoted follower of Christ, Audrey loved God with all her heart and soul. Her mornings were devoted to prayer and reading her Daily Word. As a member of Greater Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Daniel Ferdinand Audrey pledged her commitment to her faith and later served proudly as the "Mother of the Church:' Her faith was shown through her tireless acts of service, including frequent visits to Birchwood Nursing Home on Belfort St., where she shared uplifting words, a radiant smile, and her signature gift of bananas with tl1e residents.

Audrey also found joy in simple pleasures, such as watching The Young and the Restless and her favorite Westerns.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Newton and Bertha Lee Thomas; her husbands, Gilbert Jackson and Herbert Garrison; her beloved daughter, Bonita Garrison; her granddaughter, Dychelle Garrison; her sisters, Girline Baker (Nathan, deceased) and Dorothy Foster (Earnest, deceased); and her sister-in-law and dear friend, Jackie Newton.

She leaves behind cherished memories and a lasting legacy in the hearts of her family, including her grandson, Corey Garrison; great-granddaughters, Zyria Garrison and Demi Garrison; her sisters, Vera Bonton (Sam, deceased), Margie Scott (Saul, deceased), Linda Hobbs (Willie), Patricia Wilton (Jimmie, deceased); brother, Carl Michael Newton (Barbara, deceased); sister, Debbie Price (James, deceased); brother, Jerry "Gary" Newton (Christina); sister, Vickie Broussard (James); her sisters and brothers, Albert, Donald, Carl Ray, Brenda, Gregory, Mary Louise, Sharon, Fredrick, Vernola, Sandra, Gerald, and Benard. She is also survived by a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Audrey's unwavering faith, her acts of kindness, and her love for community will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
