Barbara Jean Alford (Bobby Jean) was born on April 24,1953 in Alexandria, Louisiana to the union of Bennie Bearl Simpson Sr and Mattie Jewel Simpson. Barbara departed her life on March 12, 2024. She proceeded in death by her son, (Kerwin Darvelle Simpson) her parents, brothers (Wilbert Scott and Bennie Bearl Simpson Sr, and sisters (Rita Pearl Daniels and Cyntha Ann Simpson and niece (Mattie Jewel Simpson) nephews (Bennie Hamilton Jr and Kenneth McGregor Jr and Frederick "Mane" Robinson).
She was the second born child survived by six other siblings Linda Faye Burton (Robert), Charles Frederick Simpson, Sharon Simpson, Grederick Simpson (Helena), Reginald Simpson (Elma) and Gloria Simpson (Chris Sr) and two step- sisters Mary Brown Ball (Tim) and Tonya Kay.
She received her formal education from Rapides Parish School in Alexandria Louisiana, where she went on to further her education at Grambling State University.
With the blessing of being reared in a loving home, Barbara dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. She was baptized in Alexandria, Louisiana at Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined Life Tabernacle Ministries in Houston Texas where she remained a faithful member for over 30 years, where she was a Warrior and a Soldier who became lovely known as "Mother Alford".
Barbara began her employment with the Harris County Hospital district in May 1977 as a Health Information Management Ambulatory File Clerk. She started working as a Transcriptionist in 1987 and collaborated closely with physicians. For the past 21 years Barbara worked as a Key Entry Clerk in the HIM department until her retirement on December 7, 2018.
Barbara was a Fashionista, enjoyed shopping and dressing her grandkids you could catch her on shopping sprees with her grandson (JaLonzo) smiling as his grandma picked out church clothes for them. Her favorite Boutique "Triple Fashion" where they knew her by name, her sizes, and the style and color of suits she wore. Cooking was natural to Barbara, being the oldest of ten and we ate good. She is loved by all her nieces and nephews and would attend sporting events and dance competitions to cheer them on. Miss Barb Barb as the younger staff at Ben Taub named her Loved and Admired her dearly. She enjoyed attending Jack Yates High School sporting events and cheering on the Marching Band. She was known to all for her passion and discipling the younger generation to stay on the Road call Straight, she loved her family very much. Bobby Jean was a Big Sister to all.
She leaves to cherish her memories with her husband Ernest Alford Sr, six children: Monique, Albert (Carlotta), Ernest Jr, Laquinton Marquis, Jewel (Winston) and Rose, thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, godson Alan Kenny Lee, goddaughter Janice Arceneaux (Efriem) and a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
