It was Thankful Thursday, on June 20, 1946, that a bundle of joy, Barbara Ann was born to the late George Sr. and Jessie Hicks, in Wharton, TX. She was the fourth of ten healthy children.

​Barbara accepted Christ at an early age at Center Union Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. C.H. Brown Jr.

​Barbara was educated in Hungerford, TX at Hungerford Preparatory School where she participated in several extracurricular activities such as played the clarinet and was a majorette in the band.  She was the Reigning Prom Queen of the 1965 senior class.

She met the man of her dreams Daniel Bolden at Hungerford Preparatory School in the 7 th grade. They were united in Holy Matrimony on July 3, 1965 and remained married for 55 wonderful years.

​Unto this union, three beautiful girls were born: Vallery Evette, Valicia Jean, and Tamika Danielle. They lived in Rosenberg, Houston, and finally in Missouri City, TX for the last 43 years. Barbara and family joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in 1978. She served as Head Usher and President of the Pastor Aide, under the pastoral care of Rev. James E. Laymond. She faithfully served until she received her wings.

​Barbara's very first job ever was at St. Anthony's Nursing Home Facility where she worked in the dietary department. Then was employed at South Western Bell Telepho ne Compan y.  S he was first a Long Distance Telephone Operator and last a Material Handler in the warehouse. She cultivated many friendships there and held them dear to her heart. She loved going to work, to see her many co-workers who provided her with a warm and loving family environment. She retired from SWBC with 34 years of service . She loved cooking, baking, and fashion. After retiring, she took an interest in gardening. She was so excited to receive yard of the month and become a member of the Bluebonnet Garden Club of Houston. She was an entrepreneur and operated a personal shopping business, V&B Handbags. She took her love of FASHION on the road as a vendor and cultivated many more incredible friendships.

Just the other evening Sunday, August 30, 2020, the angel kissed her checks and she silently entered her eternal home. She was preceded in eternal rest by her parents, the late George and Jessie Hicks, Sr, Sister Cynthia Moses, and special nephew James Moses Jr, sister-in-law Gloria Bolden, brother-in- law and wife Joe Dean and Della Bolden, brother-in-law Bobby Bolden and Goddaughter Bridgette Mack.

She's gone now from this world but she left to enjoy her memories:  a beloved husband, Daniel Bolden and three beautiful daughters and spouses, Vallery Rose (Terrance) of Rosharon, Valicia Smith (Tyrell) Pearland, and Tamika Bolden of Houston.  Five sisters and spouses; Ruby Hunter of Missouri City, Mary and Booker Wheatley, Rebecca Hardy (George), Carol Dickerson (Torris) all of Houston and Alma Davis (Freddie Sr.)of Missouri City, and one adopted sister Joyce Jackson of Houston; and three brothers and spouses, George Hicks Jr. (Betty) of Houston, Jessie Hicks Sr. (Carlene) of Missouri City, and Elijah Hicks Sr. of Richmond. One sister-in law, Jessie Lewis of Houston, and three brother-in-laws, Richard Bolden of Richmond, Sherman and Donna Bolden of Houston, and Thurman and Esther Bolden of Needville.  Twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
