Bernice Melton Webb was born February 23, 1928, her mother Bessie Mathis passed during childbirth. She was adopted and raised by Leonard Melton.

She married James Elder in 1947 and to this union one child was born, Eva Mae Johnson; he preceded her in death.  She married Willie D. Webb in 1958 and to this union two children were born Delmous Wayne Webb and Eric Dwight Webb Sr.

She attended Richards High School and graduated with honors in 1947.  She was on the debate team and competed in county, district, and state meetings from 1945 to 1947.  She was in the 4H Girl's Club in Grimes County.  Bernice attended Prairie View A&M University for a short period of time and Houston Community College.

Bernice joined Little Flock Baptist Church at an early age; she moved to Richards, TX and joined First Baptist.  She moved to Houston, TX in 1952 and joined Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church.  She was a member of Rhoda Circle which is a part of Mission II, a member of the choir, the street witness team and a food pantry helper.

She was a diligent worker for several families within River Oaks and dedicated 17 years of service to University of Houston as a housekeeper and seamstress.  Bernice was an exceptional cook; many family and friends feasted over her amazing dishes after Sunday church service weekly.

Bernice leaves to cherish her memories Eva Mae Johnson, Delmous Wayne Webb (Priscilla Webb), Eric Dwight Webb; five grandchildren, Benita Landry, Eric Webb Jr., (Yvette Samuels) Michael Webb (Dominique Webb), Kim Walker, Kimbal Walker (Montinea Walker), many great grandchildren and daughter in love Faith Webb.
