Bessie (Gunn) Dease

Her Precious Life

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

Bessie Gunn Dease was born March 13, 1940, to Jim and Bessie Gunnin Chicksaw, Mississippi. Her beloved parents, Jim and Bessie; four brothers, Robert, Bobby, Jimmy and Eugene, all preceded her in death.

After graduating from high school in Chicago, Illinois, Bessie met and married CC Dease. CC and Bessie relocated to Houston, Texas to create a new life. In doing so, they raised three beautiful children together.

In 1990, Bessie joined East Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Ronald Mouton. She served faithfully on the usher board, choir, greeters, decorating committee and as a deaconess under the leadership of the late Rev. Ronald Mouton and continued to serve under the current Pastor John Mouton until her health failed. Bessie loved her church and serving God’s Kingdom.

Bessie worked at the Petroleum Club for 41 years until her retirement.

Bessie loved her family and friends dearly. She loved to entertain and share good times over delicious meals. Bessie Gunn Dease was a true Diva and loved by all.

On Thursday, August 6, 2026, God called and Bessie answered,

Bessie leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and devoted husband, CC Dease; three children, Tony C. Dease, Eugene Dwayne Dease and Mattie Keys; two sisters, Christian Jackson and Yvonne Steele; four grandchildren, Isiah Dease, Eugene Dease, Jr., Jada Kendricks and Makayla Kendricks; and their mother Treva Kendricks (Markeo) along with a host of other loving relative and friends.
