In Loving Memory of Booker T. “Pops” Davis, Jr.

August 19, 1940 – August 3, 2026

Booker T. Davis Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, businessman, coach and mentor, passed away peacefully on Aug. 3, 2026, at the age of 85. His life was defined by faith, family, hard work and an unwavering commitment to helping others succeed.

Born on Aug. 19, 1940, in Leggett, Texas, Booker was the son of Allie Pearl and Booker Davis Sr. From an early age, his parents instilled in him the values of discipline, perseverance and integrity, encouraging him and his siblings to pursue excellence in everything they did. Those principles became the foundation upon which he built a remarkable life.

Raised in Leggett and Livingston, Texas, Booker developed a passion for athletics while competing with his brothers. He attended Dunbar High School, where he excelled in both football and baseball. His natural leadership abilities were evident on the playing field and later carried into his role as a coach. Throughout the years, he dedicated countless hours to mentoring young athletes, coaching football, baseball, women's softball and numerous Little League teams. His influence extended far beyond wins and losses, as he taught generations of young people the importance of teamwork, discipline, hard work, and character. One of the proudest moments of his life came in 2024, when he was inducted into the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association Hall of Fame in recognition of his decades of dedication, leadership and lasting impact on young athletes.

After moving to Houston, Booker built a successful career through hard work and entrepreneurial vision. He mastered the trucking industry while working for Budweiser-Anheuser Busch before taking a leap of faith to establish his own company, Davis & Sons Moving and Staffing. Through his business, he provided staffing and moving services for companies throughout Houston and across Texas, creating employment opportunities for many.

Later in life, Booker partnered with his sons to launch D-MARS Trucking Service, serving clients in the oil and gas industry, including Shell, Exxon and Weatherford. His leadership, work ethic and business acumen helped build a respected family enterprise before retiring at the age of 67.

Perhaps Booker's greatest legacy was the love he poured into his family. He coached each of his children in their athletic pursuits, encouraging them to strive for excellence both on and off the field. He found immense joy in watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren continue the family's proud athletic tradition, celebrating every accomplishment with the same enthusiasm and encouragement he had always given.

Booker often expressed his deepest gratitude to his beloved wife, Daisy, whose steadfast love and support sustained him throughout their years together. He also cherished his children: James, Malcolm, Kevin, Keith, Booker T. III, and Yasmine, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy and purpose to his life. He also leaves brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Booker T. Davis Jr. will be remembered as a man of honor, resilience and generosity. He was a leader who believed in hard work, family and lifting others along the way. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the businesses he built, the athletes he mentored and the family he loved so dearly.

Though he will be deeply missed, his example of perseverance, integrity and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
