Cecilia
Yearwood
Apr 5, 1945 — Dec 16, 2023
Cecilia Eldica Robinson Yearwood was born to the late Claude and Kathleen Robinson on April 5, 1945, in Ancon--Canal Zone, Republic of Panama. She was the second child and first daughter of eight children.
Cecilia had a happy childhood, filled with school studies, family duties and Church activities. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, and as the oldest girl in the family, she was a tremendous help to her Mother in looking after her younger siblings. Cecilia attended local schools in her community and in 1964, graduated from Paraiso High School, Paraiso—Canal Zone, Republic of Panama. Cecilia was an avid reader, she enjoyed playing various games including Chipong, also known as Hacky Sack, and developed a talent for sewing.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Cecilia decided that she was not satisfied with simply reading about marvelous adventures; she was determined to experience her share of life's adventures herself. Not long after this revelation, Cecilia left home bound for the United States, and began working in retail sales and then as a nurse's assistant in New York state.
Cecilia's thirst for adventure was partially fulfilled in 1971, when she fell in love and married Robert Sidney Yearwood, a military man. Following the marriage, Robert adopted Cecilia's two-year old daughter, Sharlene Vanessa. In 1973, this young family welcomed the birth of their second daughter, Stephanie Yearwood Williams and in 1976, Robert Sidney Yearwood, II, their only son, was born. During Robert's military service, Cecilia traveled to Michigan, Texas and Hampton, Virginia. While in Virginia, Cecilia eagerly sought out an opportunity to rekindle her love and zest for and service to the Lord. The New Hope Holiness Church in Hampton, Virginia, under the leadership of Pastor Willie Pearl Coleman and Minister Michael Witts, became the recipient of her spiritual gifts.
After a number of years, Cecilia's marriage to Robert was dissolved. Cecilia then moved herself and the children to Houston to be near her family. In Houston, Cecilia would become a faithful member of Braeswood Assemblies of God, under the leadership of founder, Pastor Earl Banning and subsequently, Pastor Steve Banning. At Braeswood, Cecilia was a dedicated volunteer and diligent contributor to the Children's Ministry. She had a heart for children, and until the time of her illness, worked lovingly in sharing good principles and guidance in molding young minds in Christian education. In addition, Cecilia forged lasting relationships among the members of the Freedom in Christ Sunday School Class--enjoying over 20 years of fellowship through travel and other activities—and blessing the Braeswood congregation through their service to the Church and to the surrounding community.
Always longing to become a dietician, Cecilia then transitioned her career aspirations from retail sales to a more secure position in the medical field. She returned to school, studying at Houston Community College and earned her credentials as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). As an LVN, Cecilia cared for the elderly as a health care assistant and nurse's aide. In 2010, Cecilia retired, having served a number of years as a dialysis technician at Methodist Hospital in the Medical Center.
During her later years, Cecilia enjoyed more leisure travel to Florida, Washington, D.C., Maryland and Georgia. In addition, she took a cruise to Mexico, and traveled to the Middle East, where she experienced the magnificence of the Holy Land. One other major highlight of Cecilia's life occurred in 2005, upon the occasion of her 60th Birthday Celebration. This wonderful event, organized by her children, was attended by over 100 guests. A good time was had by all, in spite of sudden fierce winds and a driving rain storm.
Cecilia is preceded in death by her parents, Kathleen Viola and Claude Dennis Robinson; stepmother, Hilda Ferguson; brother, Belisario (Jerry) Robinson; sister, Eudora Robinson Walcott; nephew, Jasiel Walcott; sister-in-law, Mercedes Robinson; and her beloved oldest child--daughter, Sharlene Vanessa Yearwood, who passed away in 2015.
Cecilia has left an indelible imprint on the lives of all those with whom she came in contact. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Stephanie Joanne Williams; son, Robert Sidney Yearwood, II (Cassandra); her siblings: Tyrone Robinson, Enrique Robinson (Luisa), Yvonne Robinson, Tony Robinson (Judith), John D. Robinson (Gloria); grandchildren: Jaquelyn, Lilliana, Christian and Kayla and a host of adoring nieces, nephews, extended family and caring friends.
