On April 11, 2001, a precious miracle baby boy was born “Christian Josiah Perkins” to Leroy and Athena Perkins in Houston, Texas. His parents dedicated him to Christ at six months old. As an infant, he played the role of “Baby Jesus” in the Christmas program at New Faith Church. Christian was raised in the Word. He has been a member of New Faith Church all his life.
From 2004 to 2007, Christian attended Pre-K3 through Kindergarten at New Faith Church School. He later transferred to Harmony School of Science where he attended from Elementary through High School. He graduated in 2019. Then, Christian continued his education at the University of Houston - Downtown Campus where he attended his Freshman year. Later, he took some college courses at Houston Community College.
In July 2019, Christian accepted Christ for himself and was baptized by his grandfather Rev. Ruben Newell at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Van Vleck, Texas.
In October 2024, Christian joined the U.S. Army Reserve. On December 18, 2024, he successfully completed Basic Training. On June 27, 2025, Christian graduated from U.S. Army AIT Joint Base San Antonio – Fort Sam Houston where he received his certification as a Pharmacy Technician. After getting his certificate, he successfully passed the Texas State Board Exam on the first try. He went on to work for Memorial Herman Hospital Pharmacy Department in the Medical Center.
Christian was a caring and loving young man. He had a heart of gold. He loved hard. There was never a doubt about how much he loved you because his actions reflected the love. He genuinely cared about people. That was his gift. He always wanted to help those who were less fortunate. He would give food to the homeless and money if he had it. Although he was only on this earth for a short period of time, he touched so many lives with his compassion and kindness.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents: Leroy and Athena Perkins; his son: Aston A. Perkins (former-wife/Aston’s mother Auctavia Curl); two sisters: Britney M. Perkins (Brandon Blackwell) and Gabrielle C. Perkins; his maternal grandparents: Ruben and LaVerne Newell; his paternal grandparents: Leroy Perkins Sr. and Ann Perkins; his nephew: Braysen J. Blackwell; his Aunt Tahmara Dickson, Uncle Tracy Newell, Uncle Ruben and Aunt Dale Newell, Uncle Robert and Aunt Nikki Perkins, Uncle Elgin Perkins and Uncle Tracey Perkins, Aunt Tracy Perkins; Uncle William Carpenter and Aunt Kathy Carpenter and host of other Uncles, Aunts and cousins.
Christian was proceeded in death by his beloved grandmother Yvonne P. Mayberry.
Christian’s life and legacy will live on through his son.
