Obituary

Chundra Lanise Wheat was born July 20, 1971, to parents Charles Edward (deceased) and Mandelyn Jean Wheat (deceased) at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was the first of three daughters born to this union.

Chundra would become big sister to her sisters Nicole Rayshawn (deceased) and Sherita Renee – and her brother David. She provided guidance, advice, and support to all her siblings – and most importantly, she gave them unconditional love.

Chundra accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, under the pastorate of Rev. Hoxie Perry, Jr.  Throughout her childhood, she, her siblings, and her first cousins were involved in all church youth activities.

Chee attended Sunnyside Elementary School and Crispus Attucks Middle School.  Chee upheld a long family tradition of attending the 'Pride of Sunnyside' - matriculating at Evan E. Worthing High School in 1986.  She graduated in 1989 and entered Texas Southern University on a full scholarship with plans to major in Pharmacy.

Those were her initial plans, but she found her niche in the mortgage industry. She started as a Loan Transfer Specialist at the Litton Loan Servicing LP in 2001.  More recently, she was a Mortgage Operations Support Specialist at Texas Bay Credit Union where she worked faithfully.

Chee met the love of her life – Theodis –at age 18.  They had a lengthy telephone 'romance' for nearly 2 years before they met in person.  September 29, 1995, documented the beginning of Chee and Theodis' official union. The mutual respect, deep-seated love, and undying admiration - all based on a solid friendship - formed a relationship that nothing could shake. Theodis was her knight in shining armor, and she was his number one cheerleader. Their relationship was a tangible expression of the traditional vows of "for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish..."

As their life together evolved, most importantly, their relationship with Jesus Christ became the very center of their lives.

Chee began attending the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church (MBC) in Galveston, Texas, where her father – Rev. Charles E. Wheat was Pastor. Under his teaching and loving influence, she became an active member of the St. Luke MBC in 2000. She was a faithful, dedicated member whose primary focus was to develop a deep, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. She immersed herself in Bible Study at St. Luke.  She also became an active member of the Houston Prayer Group and Bible Study. During her time at the St. Luke MBC, Chee was an active member of the Youth Department, Helping Hands Women's Ministry, Sunday School, Mass Choir, and the Stop, Drop & Pray Ministry.

As her life showed – Chee saw 'the good and The God in everyone!' She was a true encourager, never hesitating to give a pat on the back or positive affirmations to everyone – especially the youth. She was obedient to God's leading and often would take time to speak kind and uplifting words to those who were depressed, distressed, overwhelmed, or living outside of God's Will. She was the light in every room she entered, bringing with her the three 'F's" - Fun, Fellowship, and Faith.

In 2018, Chee felt God leading her to return to the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, and she re-united under the pastorate of Rev. Jerome Davis. Her faithfulness in giving of her time, talent, and treasures never faltered. At Mt. Moriah, she became intimately involved in numerous church functions. She served as an instructor for New Members Orientation, a leader in the Stop, Drop & Pray Ministry, and a member of Compassion International.

Some people live a life, but Chee left us a legacy.  She has earned a permanent place in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 9:35 p.m. Chundra Lanise "Chee" Wheat transitioned from time into eternity and was ushered into The Presence of Our King Jesus Christ.
