Clyde Douglas
Beard Sr
Dec 2, 1940 — Mar 3, 2025
Clyde Douglas Beard, Sr. was born on December 2, 1940 in the unincorporated community of Frogmore in Concordia Parish, Louisiana, to Johnnie Beard and Dora Eva Freeman Beard. He peacefully passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, in Missouri City, Texas, at the age of 84.
From a young age, Clyde was baptized and attended Mount Beulah Christian Church in Frogmore, LA. As a boy, he enjoyed following his father around the cotton fields and playing marbles and horseshoes. He attended grammar school in Catahoula Parish and graduated from Catahoula Parish Training High School in Jonesville, LA, in 1958. After high school, Clyde moved to Chicago, IL, where he explored new opportunities while living with his cousins, Purvis and Willie Mae Washington.
In 1961, Clyde went home and married Arnvie Dell Skinner of Ferriday, LA. He returned to Chicago, IL with his bride and worked at Michael Reese Hospital in Patient Transportation. After a few years in Chicago, they had a brief stay in Monroe, LA and eventually settled in Houston, TX where they continued to raise their beautiful family. Clyde worshiped at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, where he served as a deacon and drove the church transportation van. He worked at Houston Methodist Hospital then later joined GSC Enterprises, Grocery Supply Company, as a heavy and tractor trailer truck driver. He completed his driving career at Best Delivery, an interstate freight carrier company, after over 30 years in the transportation industry. Following retirement and before his mother's passing in 2011, Clyde spent time in Ferriday, LA, to assist his aging Father, whom he admired. He deeply adored his devoted parents who were God-fearing and married for 72 years.
Clyde was a hardworking family man who cherished spending time with his loved ones. He was fun-loving, had a great sense of humor, was slow to anger, and never met a stranger. As an avid bowler, he enjoyed traveling for league tournaments and bowled at Houston's Stadium Bowl with the 300 Plus League. Clyde brought laughter to everyone around him, leaving a lasting impression on all who he met. Whenever he was around, there was always an abundance of joy, laughter, and lively conversation.
Clyde leaves to cherish his memory his lovely wife Arnvie Dell Skinner Beard; his children, Nathan Duncan Beard of Ferriday, LA, Tonja Beard of Houston, TX, Clyde Beard, Jr. (Sharon) of Houston, TX; his grandchildren who kept him young at heart, Michael (Nijia), Chanté, Mallory (James), Taylor (Lauryn), Kennedi, Landon, and Andre; his great-grandchildren, Nailah, Maliah, Savannah and Zoe; his sister, Myrtle Bossier (Hillary) of Edgard, LA, brother, Fritz Beard (Dietrich) of Natchez, MS, his cousin, as close a brother, Purvis Washington (Willie Mae) of Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends to all of them he gave his unconditional love.
Clyde is now reunited with his parents, Johnnie and Dora Eva Freeman Beard; his youngest son, Edward Tyrone Beard, who held a special place in his heart; his sisters, Marian Venita Guidry and Velma Meredith; and his brothers, Edward Roy Beard and Louis Arrington.
