David Coleman
Sr.
Jan 9, 1944 — Nov 27, 2023
DAVID COLEMAN SR. was born on January 9,1944, in Haynesville, Louisiana, the second child of Mayfield and Nellie Mae Coleman. When David was 6 years old, he and his family moved to Houston, Texas. David received his education at Houston public schools and graduated from Evan E. Worthing High School. On July 19, 1963, David married the love of his life, Patsy Ruth Terrell, and together they were blessed with six children. Throughout his life, David worked for different companies, including Capitol Manufacturing Company, AA Valve Specialties, and W-K-M Valve, where he retired after 24 years of dedicated service. David and Patsy's dream of opening the Grandpa & Grandma Happy-Faces Child Development Center became a reality, and for fourteen years, they nurtured and cared for the children of their community.
David's faith played a central role in his life. At the age of fourteen, David confessed Jesus to be the Son of God, got baptized, and became a devoted member of the Body of Christ. David's dedication to serving others was evident through his involvement with the Sick Ministry at South Union Church of Christ. He compassionately cared for those in need, providing comfort and support during difficult times. David took on the role of a Deacon at Cloverland Church of Christ. In later years, he returnedto Cloverland Church of Christ where he served as Assistant Minister to Isaac Bromon, the church's Minister.
In 1971, David embarked on a vision to establish a new endeavor in Angleton, Texas. Joining David and his family was Thomas Foster and his family. David and Thomas Foster shared the same passion for service. Together, they embraced a new chapter of devotion and commitment at the Westside Church of Christ. Later, David's unwavering dedication led him to become the Assistant Minister of West Side Church of Christ, where he served alongside Joe Allen Teamer Sr., a devoted Minister for twenty-six years.
David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Patsy Ruth Terrell Coleman, his wife of sixty years, along with his two daughters Pamela Elizabeth Manning (Van) and Patricia Ruth Housley (Darryl), his four sons, Erwin David Coleman (Andrea), Edwin Douglas Coleman (Cora), Daniel Earl Coleman, and David Coleman Jr. (Francesca), twenty-one grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren will deeply miss him.
Alongside his immediate family, David's legacy of love, faith, and service will be remembered by all who knew him. He is survived by his loved ones: Patsy Ruth Terrell Coleman, Pamela Manning, Erwin Coleman, Edwin Coleman, Patricia Housley, Daniel Coleman, and David Coleman Jr. He is fondly remembered by his two brothers, Roy Coleman, and Charles Coleman, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, Mayfield and Nellie Mae Coleman, his dear sister Nora Mae Idlebird, and two brothers, Jessie Lee Coleman, and Freddie Coleman.
