Obituary

Deatrice Elizabeth Shavers was born on February 16, 1921, to Mr. Zennie J. Shavers and Florence Craven Shavers in Kendleton, Texas (Powell Point).  Mrs. Cloud attended Powel Point High School.  In 1937 she married Freddie Allen Sr, to this union 4 children were born.  Vanilla, Freddie, Blanche & Clemmie.  In 1948 she moved to Houston, Texas where she met & married Mr. Lee Cloud. To this union 2 girls were born, Ollie Lee Cloud & Patricia Ann Cloud.

At age 9 she accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and was baptized at Little Zion Baptist Church by Rev. Tom Gordon where she became a faithful member of the Youth Department which included Sunday School, the Choir and B.Y.P.U.  Upon coming to Houston, she united with Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church where the late Rev. M.L. Price was Pastor.

In 1951 she and her family moved to Sunnyside where she became a Member of East Macedonia American Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. S.L. Farris, E.L. Carroll and Dr. Frank Celestine Sr.  Mrs. Cloud was involved in church activities such as Matron of the Starlight Band (44 years), Girl's Auxiliary Matron, Combined Choirs, Sunday School and the Sr. Women Auxiliary.  Mrs. Cloud found joy in doing whatever she could to help her church. Mrs. Cloud always found joy in visiting the sick and if she couldn't visit, she was sure to call.

Mrs. Cloud was a member of Eastern Star Maple Leaf Chapter #59 since 1942.

She retired after working for Dr. & Mrs. John M. Filippone for 44 years as a housekeeper.

Mrs. Cloud is preceded in death by parents, Zennie & Florence Shavers (Craven), husband, Lee Cloud, Brothers, Townsend, Spencer (Gussie), Horace (Johnnie Mae), Horis (Lille Mae), Sisters, Clemmie (Quincy), and Deola (Raymond). Children, Vanilla D. Allen Clark (Johnny), Freddie Allen, Jr. & Blanche Allen Foster.

She leaves to cherish her memories, daughters Clemmie Allen, Ollie Cloud, Patricia Cloud Curl and Daughter-in-Law Sonja Allen and a host of Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren and Great-Great-Great Grandchildren and the Filippone Family.
