The story of Debra Frazier is one defined by unwavering faith, deep dedication to her family, and a life spent in service to others.
Her journey began in Chicago, Illinois, where she was born to John Daniel and Dorothy Perry. Growing up in the vibrant city of Chicago alongside her brother, George Daniel, she was anchored by a strong spiritual foundation from the very beginning. As a young girl, she confessed her faith in Christ at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, marking the start of a lifelong walk with God.
As she grew into adulthood, Chicago remained the backdrop for the chapters of her life for nearly six decades. It was there that she met and married Gilbert Matthew Frazier Jr. and became a proud and devoted mother to her three children: Melody Hall, Dorothy Frazier, and Gilbert Frazier. Her circle of love only widened over the years, embracing her bonus daughter, Latoya Frazier, her cherished godchild, Charity Hudson, and her beloved nephew, David Daniel.
For 36 years, Debra was a pillar of strength and reliability at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. She dedicated over three decades of hard work to caring for her community, earning the deep respect of her colleagues and friends.
But outside of her hard work, she knew how to enjoy the life God gave her. Debra was a vibrant woman who loved the color blue, and she found immense joy in the simpler pleasures of life. She loved to travel, experience new places, and eat at good restaurants. She also possessed a legendary love for shopping, often spending her weekends hunting for the perfect finds at the outlet malls. And although she enjoyed introducing her children to the finer things in life, she made a point to routinely give them a lesson or two on the importance of their coins.
Above all else, her heart belonged to the Lord. For over 20 years, she was a faithful and deeply rooted member of Tree of Life Outreach Ministries in Chicago. Even when life brought a major change in 2020—when she made the move south to Houston, Texas—her devotion never wavered. She quickly found a new spiritual home and community at New Light Christian Center Church, where she remained a dedicated member.
No dream was too big, no prayer too small…if there’s a will, Jesus and Debra forged a way. This was her gift that she shared with many. “You know you right!” (as she would often yell during a good sermon)
Following a sudden heart attack, Debra was received home to eternal rest. While her absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of her children and all who loved her, they take comfort in knowing she is resting in the arms of her Savior.
