Della Louise Hicks was born December 1, 1942 in Houston, Texas to the proud parents of John N. Smith and Bernice Smith.
Della Hicks grew up in the Sunnyside area. She joined Pentecostal Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. W. H. Burks. She remained a faithful member of Pentecostal under the leadership of Rev. Acie J. Jefferson Jr. Her church affiliation included: Deaconess, Seniors on the Move, Senior Choir, Women's Chorus, Coordinator of various programs in the youth department, Vacation Bible School Worker, and she also worked in the kitchen at the church.
Della loved to Cook, Bake, and make Frequent visits to the store.
Della was united in Holy Matrimony to Will M. Hicks Jr. on January 6,1960. They were one of the first couples to be married in the edifice at 8310 Southview. To this union 4 children were born: Harold, Sharon, Melba, and Kenneth.
Della was proceeded in death by her parents John and Bernice Smith, one stepson Derrick Hicks, two brothers; John and Jerrell Smith, Husband Will M. Hicks Jr., daughter in law Sonya A. Hicks, two sisters; Janice Jones and Brenda Sherrod.
On September 29,2024, Della's earthly journey ended. She leaves to cherish her memory to four children Harold, Sharon (Kenneth), Melba, Kenneth, Godson Damon Milton, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 1 brother Clifford Smith (Sharon), a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, associates and friends.
