Deryl Joseph Raglin, known affectionately as DJ, passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 78 in Houston, Texas. Born on January 12, 1946, in Medria, California. DJ led a life marked by service, resilience, and compassion.
After graduating from Jack Yates Senior High in 1964, DJ volunteered in the US Army during a critical period of the Vietnam War. His commitment to his country was evidenced by his service from 1964 to 1966, including time spent in West Germany. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was recognized as a Marksman with a rifle, receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Post-military, DJ channeled his leadership skills into a successful business in carpet installation, demonstrating the same patriotism and dedication he had shown in the Army. Despite facing significant health challenges, including major brain surgeries in the late 1970s, DJ's spirit remained unbroken. His illness led to early retirement, yet he continued to embody qualities of compassion and kindness, maintaining a quiet and selfless demeanor throughout his later years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Raglin, Sr. and Artelia Roberson Raglin; his twin sister, Sheryl Raglin Miller; siblings, Evelyn J. Raglin, Ernest Raglin, Jr., Robert C. Raglin and his grandson, Darnell J. Raglin.
DJ is survived by his loving daughters, Tammy Raglin-Mingneau (Kent), LaKeysa Raglin-Walker, Romona Raglin-Kerley (Clifford), and Andrea Raglin-Pineda; brothers, Fred D. Raglin (Gloria), Donald R. Raglin (Othelene) , Lee M. Dickerson (Avis) ; and sisters Felecia G. Jeffery (Ralph) and Sandra Craney; grandchildren, Christian Medrano, Kamari Walker, Cameron and Cayla Kerley, Zoe, Judah and Alden Pineda; and a host of nephews and nieces.
DJ's life was a testament to his enduring strength and his deep love for his family and country. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
