Obituary

Dolores Septh Felton was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 20, 1931 to Thelma McGill
Septh and Leon Septh Sr. Dolores was the eldest of four children. She graduated from Booker
T. Washington High School and she attended Xavier University on a singing scholarship. She
had a beautiful operatic voice and she sang in several plays and operas.

On September 11, 1954 she married John Thaddeus Felton, and from this union they had four
(4) children, Kirk, Leslie, Guy and Sean. Dolores and John lived in New Orleans for the first few
years of their marriage, they then moved to DeQuincy, Louisiana for a short while, before finally
settling in Houston, Texas in 1960. They purchased a home in Houston's Third Ward and joined
St. Mary's Catholic Church. Dolores and John sent Kirk and Leslie to school at St. Mary's, and
they occasionally had the priest over for dinner with the family. Dolores was an excellent cook,
as many family and friends can attest.

The family outgrew their 2-bedroom home on Ruth Street and moved to their current home in
Crestmont Park in 1967. A year later Dolores started work (outside the home) at Foley's
Department Store on Main Street. She was hired as a salesperson, which was perfect for her
outgoing friendly personality. She grew to become an excellent salesperson, and annually she
was recognized as one of the top salespersons for the store. She worked in several
departments, but most frequently she worked in women's clothing. Dolores loved fashion and
many customers would state that they wanted to dress in a style similar to whatever Dolores
was wearing. Dolores would "dress them up" and would frequently encourage the customer to
dress more youthful or more stylish, and in the sales process she often managed to make both
a friend and a lifetime customer.

Dolores' other passions include renovating, decorating and landscaping her home. She would
have loved being an interior designer. She loved to shop, and would constantly redecorate her
home (much to her husband's chagrin) and she planted new flowers every spring. Guests
would frequently comment on how nice and modern her home looked! From the vibrant colors
inside her home to the meticulous landscaping outside, everything had the Dolores Felton
signature style.

Dolores (like her husband) loved her family and vacations were often spent visiting family.
Numerous trips were made to Louisiana where most of the extended family live, but there were
also several trips to visit family in New York, California, and Kansas.

Dolores Felton is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John Thaddeus Felton, sister
Audrey Butler of New Orleans, and brothers Surley Septh of New Orleans and Leon Septh of
Overland Park, Kansas. Dolores is survived by her four children, Kirk (Barbara), Leslie, Guy
(Cassandra), and Sean (Alrica); three half brothers (Leonard Septh, Myron Septh and Kevin
Septh) all of New York City; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great-great
grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
