Donald Ray Hall was born in Houston, TX on September 11, 1963, to Verna and
Herman Hall, Sr. Donald gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was baptized by
Bishop C. H. Turner at McGowan Memorial Spiritual Temple # 1.
In 1971 he joined Greater St. Matthew under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Gusta
Booker Jr. There he was a member of the Jr. Choir and the Young Adult Choir. Later he
became a musician in the percussion section, playing the conga and tambourine. He
remained a member at GSM until his health failed.
When Donald was a preteen, he went to live with his godfather, Robert Simms. Under
his guidance Donald obtained his primary education through the Houston Independent
School District. Later he received his GED where he excelled. He was employed with
Ben Taub Hospital for many years.
In 2002, he was blessed with Shakira Jenkins. Donald enjoyed spending time with his
family. He loved playing dominos and talking noise. He loved to sing and was great at it.
He liked to cook and eat. He always kept us laughing. He loved fashion. He loved to
dress. His favorite saying was..... God is good all the time and all the time God is good!
Donald Ray was proceeded in death by his father, Herman Hall Sr, his maternal and
paternal grandparents, and his older brother Herman Hall Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Verna Lacour; his godfather Robert
Simms; daughter Shakira, siblings Lolita (Curtis), Myranda, Beulah, and Albert Lee, and
a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Donald will be missed
by everyone who knew him. He will remain in our hearts forever!
