Donna Evette Anderson-Moss, age 65, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Monday, March 17, 2025, in Manvel, Texas.
Donna was born at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas on Friday, August 14, 1959, to parents Louis David Anderson and Emma Ruth (White) Anderson.
Donna attended JJ Rhoades Elementary K-5 grade, Frost Elementary 6th grade, Albert Thomas Middle School, and graduated from Ross Shaw Sterling High School in Houston, Texas. While attending Sterling she enjoyed playing tennis and being involved in many organizations. She attended the University of Houston, where she met her future husband, Rodney Lynn Moss. Donna graduated from Hermann Hospital LVN School and furthered her nursing education by earning an Associate Degree Registered Nurse.
Donna began her 41-year Nursing career at Hermann Hospital. She worked at area hospitals in Houston and Tomball, home health care, traveling Texas in-servicing new medical products, triage for private practices and finishing her career as a phone triage nurse helping pioneer Memorial Herman's Nurse Helpline. She retired shortly after her cancer diagnosis.
Donna married Rodney Lynn Moss in Houston, Texas at Wesley Chapel African Methodist Church in Houston, Texas on June 5, 1982. To this union two sons were born: Nicholas Ryan and Christopher O'Brien Moss. The couple were to celebrate their 43rd wedding anniversary on June 5, 2025.
Donna was baptized and attended Wesley Chapel AME Church under the leadership of Dr. Rev. Edward E. Coates. She served as an Usher. After her marriage to Rodney, the family joined Windsor in the mid 80's, serving in the Women's Chorus, Den mother for Cub Scouts, co-teaching 5th and 6th grade Sunday School with Rodney, co-founding Cornerstone Christian Academy home school with Rodney, joined Sugar Creek Home Educators, volunteered with the youth ministry at Windsor, co-founded Maranatha Christian Home Educators chartered at Windsor Village, co-published the MCHE monthly newsletter and joined the Alter Guild at Windsor. She co-founded Nieces Night Out and The Annual Labor Day Bash with Rodney. She joined multiple Nursing organizations, obtained a Certification in Horticulture, and she planned and helped create the garden for Corinthian Village.
Donna's hobbies included gardening, cooking, canning, reading, camping, fishing, table games, embroidery, cross stitching, sewing, traveling and lastly quilting. Donna had planned to learn from her mother (Emma Ruth) on how to complete an heirloom of antique unfinished quilts. Her mom passed away before they started. So, Donna taught herself how to finish the antiques and created a legacy of quilts for her family that will be cherished for generations. She was able to deliver her last three quilts in February.
She was preceded in death by her great grandfathers, great grandmothers, grandfathers, grandmothers, father, mother and five sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her husband Rodney L. Moss-Manvel, Tx; sons: Nicholas (Tamorha) Moss-Missouri City, TX and Christopher (Celese) Moss-Tampa, FL; six grandsons: Christien, Isaiah, Darius, Matthew, Malakai and Micah; one granddaughter Emma Ruth; brother: Guy P. Anderson-Houston, TX; two sisters: Terry D. Anderson-Pearland, TX; Marilyn (Benny) Barnes-Manvel, TX; Grand Aunt: Lavell (Green) Smith; Aunt: Bernice (Anderson) Griffin; Uncle and Godfather: Elijah Tyler Anderson; God-daughters: Erica Mosley & Jessica Land; nieces Gwen, Kamala, Shuan, Kerri, Melanie, Tiffany J., Tiffany M., Ashley, and Angela; god-niece: Victoria; four nephews: seven brother in laws: five sister in laws; her beloved sister in law: Miriam LaVern Cage; dear friends: Carol Matsumoto and Natalie Lambert; and a host of other family, friends and colleagues.
