Obituary

Doris Pratt Alexander, born March 1, 1937, to Eddie and Rosie Pratt in Navasota, Texas, was a devoted wife, mother, and active member of her community. Upon completing her primary education, she relocated to Houston to attend Texas Southern University. There she met and married Zeno Alexander, with whom she had five children. In the early 1960's she assisted him in opening Alexander Shoe Repair. Her commitment to him lasted for 33 years until his passing in 1993. She managed the business after his death up to her declining health. The shopremains in operation today.

Doris was also deeply rooted in her faith and was an active member of St. Mary's United Methodist Church for over six decades. Known for her warm heart and willingness to help others, Doris was affectionately called "Aunt Doris" by many in her community. She dedicated herself to various church ministries and community activities, including providing food and support to those in need. She also served as the PTApresident in the Houston Independent School District and was a member of the Southern Region Zeta Amicae.

Doris's generosity extended beyond her community involvement. Despite caring for her own family, she took on the role of head coach for an inner-city all-girls track club, fulfilling the original coach's dying wish and guiding many young ladies to success. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, traveling, gardening, and baking.

Doris leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and service. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four siblings.

Left to forever cherish her memories are her loving children, Tina Alexander Gamble (Craig Gamble), Ft. Worth, Texas; NinaAlexander LaFond (Kelvin LaFond), Ft. Worth, Texas; Zeno Alton Alexander, Houston, Texas; Jennifer Denise Alexander, Houston, Texas; and Tamara Rochelle Alexander, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Her siblings include Rosie Farmer, Easter Nobles, Sandra Charles, Gwen Byrd, Kenneth Pratt, and Michael Pratt, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
