Obituary

Dorothy Jean Heflin was born Dorothy Moore on August 20, 1947 to Augusta Poole Moore and Vastine Moore in LaGrange, Texas.  Dorothy was the second daughter born to this union.

After the family moved to Houston at the young age of six, Dorothy was baptized at Oliver Chapter Baptist Church in Third Ward. During her teen years the family settled in Sunnyside and joined East Macedonia Baptist Church.  Dorothy was a member of the Youth Choir, Gospel Chorus and other church auxillaries.

While attending Evan E. Worthing, she developed a passion for sewing and cooking. Dorothy graduated from Evan E. Worthing in 1963.
In (year) Dorothy married Maurice Heflin.  This union produced two daughters, Nicole and Kimberly Heflin.
Dorothy worked at several banks and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation over a thirty-year period. She was responsible for balancing large corporate accounts. She made many life-long friends throughout her career, Dorothy worked many night shifts and made sacrifices to take care of her children,

Dorothy showed her love through her actions. She was also very observant and good at reading people.  If you asked for her opinion, be prepared for her unfiltered response. Dorothy nurtured many through her advice and cooking. Most grocery store visits with Dorothy were going to require halting the checkout line and speaking to the manager. Dorothy was a very passionate and amazing cook whose best dishes included gumbo, roast, carrots and potatoes, and apple pie. She truly enjoyed bringing joy through food to her family and friends.
On December 8, 2024, at 6:21 p.m. departed to meet her Lord and Savior. She is preceded in death by her parents Vastine Moore and Augusta Moore, nephew, William Bruce King. Dorothy Heflin's legacy endures through her daughters, Nicole Heflin Beaty and Kimberly Heflin, stepson Van High, her sister Bonnie Ruth King, companion Leo Marty Judice, son-in law Victor Beaty, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
