Edward Harold
Parker
Jul 22, 1935 — Oct 16, 2024
On July 22, 1935, Edward Harold Parker was born in Lubbock, Texas. He was the only child of Ms. Katherine Brantley. They moved to Houston while Edward was very young. Edward attended Jack Yates High School and served in the United States Army for two years. He was honorably discharged in May 1966.
After the military, Edward worked many years at St. Lukes/Texas Children's Hospital as an Orderly. He then pursued a transportation opportunity with Entenmann's/Oroweat and retired from there after 20 years. While still working he attended auto mechanical and locksmith schools and received certifications in both. He was a computer whiz and particularly enjoyed trying new software!
In the late 60's Edward met the love of his life Annie Lee Murphy and after a few years she became his wife! Their near fifty years of marriage showed an enduring partnership with one another.
With the marriage came Ann's son, Keith Wayne Sherrod, who Edward loved dearly. They bonded and spent a lot of time with auto mechanics and watching sports!
Much later Erin Smith came into the family by christening…a goddaughter! Erin was like a grandchild! Known as Peewee to Edward and Sugar Baby to Ann, Edward and Ann participated in most all of her events with and without Erin's parents! Edward and Peewee were so close that Peewee was even able to get Edward to do things that no one else could! This goddaughter was supported in every way by goddaddy and godmother!
Mr. Parker accepted Christ at a late age and joined Brentwood Baptist Church. Deacon Melvin Thompson so dutifully shared the gospel with him on a weekly basis; Mrs. Parker continually prayed, witnessed, and then rejoiced when Mr. Parker accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! Mr. Parker enjoyed and faithfully watched at least two Worship Services each Sunday and read "The Word for You Today" daily.
Edward's health became challenging with chronic kidney disease, which led to 10 years on dialysis. He received nine years of excellent care from DIALYSPA and lastly one year with DiVita.
Edward was preceded in death by his mother Katherine Brantley, daughter Charlotte Jean Parker, sons Edward Parker, Jr. and Kenneth Parker, and godmother Lillie Mae Baker.
He leaves in God's care a devoted compassionate wife Annie L. Parker, stepson Keith Sherrod, goddaughter Erin Smith "Peewee", sister-in-law Alberta McFarland "Bert", niece Lois Gaddis (Archie), nephews Edward McFarland (Lisa), Bernard McFarland (Karin), Greg McFarland (Achon), devoted friends Aaron and Diccie Smith, a host of great nieces, great nephews, and friends.
