Eler Mae
Sandles
Aug 7, 1932 — May 6, 2025
Eler Duncan was born on August 7, 1932 to Lee and Arlean Young Duncan
in Madisonville, Texas. She found Christ at an early age and was a
member of Sweet Zion Baptist Church of Madisonville where she taught
Sunday School. She attended schools in both Huntsville and
Madisonville, graduating from high school in Madisonville at the age
of 16. She was a graduate of Mary Allen College in Crockett, Texas
receiving her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1954. Eler was
active in the civic events of her community; from participating in
math fairs to being elected Homecoming Queen, and it was in fact her
lively social life that led her to the love of her life on October
16th, 1950. She started dating William Mitchell Sandles at the Texas
State Fair.
"We've been an item ever since,
" said William. The couple
married June 15, 1957. From this union two children were born Regina
Yvette Sandles (Williams), and William Le Terance Sandles.
Eler's work life was varied but always geared towards serving and
uplifting others. She worked in the nursery of Hermann Hospital as
well as the radiology department, but her dream and passion was
always education. She joined the teaching staff at the J.P. Cornelius
Math and Science Academy (HISD) where she taught various grades from
1974 to 1997.
The only thing that she loved more than service to family and friends
was serving the Lord. Prior to joining The Ft.Bend Church twenty
years ago,Eler was a member of Oliver Chapel Baptist and Brentwood
Baptist Church. Before the pandemic Eler attended Fort Bend's Sunday
School and the noon mid-week Bible service.
Eler Sandles is survived by her husband of 68 years William
Sandles;children Regina Williams(Richard)and William
L.Sandles;grandson Austin Williams, sister,Rosie
Quiller;sisters-in-law Gwendolyn Byrd and Jessie Sandles;and a host
of nieces,nephews and cousins.
Eler Sandles went to be with the Lord the morning of May 6, 2025 at
home with her family, and although this is a heart breaking time for
her family, it is also a moment she, as an educator, would point out
is a time for joy. Eler Mae has graduated with highest honors to be with our lord.
