Obituary

Emma Lois Simon was born February 4, 1940 to her parents, RL and Odessia Mayberry in Gonzales, Texas. Lois attended Shiner, Texas schools.

Lois accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Shiner, Texas under the leadership of Rev. Willie Gus Sampton.

In 1963 she moved to Houston, Texas, and married Murphy D. Simon Sr. Two children were born to their union: Murphy D. Simon Jr. and Marcus Darron Simon. They joined St. Agnes Baptist Church in Houston and were faithful there for many years. Later they joined Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church. After her husband died, Emma remained there faithfully serving until her son Rev. Murphy D. Simon, Jr. became the pastor at First St. Mark Baptist Church where she joined.

In 2008, Dr. Simon became Pastor at Bethel Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, and Emma joined under his leadership, remaining faithful until her health failed her.

Lois was a domestic worker, a Mary Kay consultant, and she worked as a bus driver for Ronald McDonald House until retirement.

Lois was a loving person who loved to tell stories and talk. She loved people and would call family members daily. She would always end her calls with "I love you." We are going to miss her greatly but know that one day we will all see her again.

Emma Lois Simon passed to her sunset Tuesday, August 6, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents RL and Odessia Mayberry, her husband Murphy D. Simon Sr., her son Rev. Dr. Murphy D. Simon Jr., brothers Morris and Floyd Mayberry and sisters Nona Giles and Beulah Flowers.

Emma Lois is survived by her son Marcus Darron Simon; daughter-in-law, April Simon; and one granddaughter Madison Simon; family friend, Denisia Bryant all of Houston, Texas; sisters Maxine Nation, Sandra Gates (Douglas), Carolyn Gates; brothers EL Mayberry, Ronnie Mayberry (Jonell), and Bruce Mayberry (Mary), all of Shiner, Texas; James Mayberry, Elvis Mayberry (Pearl), Marvin Mayberry (Jackie) all of Houston, Texas; and Joe Mayberry (Connie) of Schulenburg Texas. Emma leaves a host of many nieces, nephews and friends.
