Obituary

Ezzard Gregory Martin Sam was born on October 22, 1950, to the union of Roger and Lydia Sam. Ezzard was the oldest of three children. He entered eternal rest on Saturday, June 18, 2022.

On January 8, 1977, Ezzard "Greg" married the love of his life, Gracie Barfield. To this union, two children were born – Lydia and Roger. He served with great honor at St. Francis Xavier Catholic church in many capacities. He was the President of the Pastoral Council, Lector, Knights of Peter Claver and Eucharistic minister. He also served as a prison minister at Brazoria County Jail. He retired from Houston Lightening and Power Company, Finance Manager for Gulf Coast Dealership and was currently serving as an educator with Sugar Land Middle School. At the age of 60, he returned to school and obtained a Bachelor and Master's degree from University of Phoenix. He loved being active by running, playing softball, cutting the grass, etc.

He was preceded in death by parents: Roger and Lydia Sam. He is survived by his wife, Gracie Sam, sons: Sean Deese (Tamika) and Roger M. Sam III; daughters: Chiante Deal (Derrick) and Lydia Sam, sister: Deborah Sam; brother: Stanley Sam (Regina); step-mother, Helen Sam; grandchildren: Sean Deese Jr, Caleb Deal, Joshua Deal and Jordan Deese; and a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.

Ezzard was a devoted husband, father, brother, friend with a generous heart and a joyful spirit.
