Flynn Allen
Jackson
Sep 30, 1939 — Dec 17, 2024
Flynn Allen Jackson, 85, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away December 17, 2024, at UTMB Health Clear Lake Campus Hospital, Webster Texas. Flynn was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1939 to David Jackson Sr. and Marcille Brock Jackson, who instilled in him the importance of family which he practiced all of his life. Flynn was baptized at Roanoke Baptist Church on Whitington Avenue in Hot Springs, Arkansas and was very active in church until he went to college. Flynn attended Douglass Elementary School where he was crowned Mr. Douglass in the fourth grade and graduated from Langston High School where he was a member of the Langston Glee Club, Vice President of the Student Council and Valedictorian of his Senior Class in 1958. During his high school years Flynn worked at Lauray's Jewelry Store where he was noted for walking to work from his home on Walnut Street and whistling all the way to work on Central Avenue in the downtown area of Hot Springs.
Flynn graduated with a major in Electrical Engineering from Prairie View A&M College, now Prairie View A&M University. He was a member of the ROTC program, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. During his military service, he advanced through the ranks and completed his career as a Commander. After retiring from the military, Flynn relocated to Houston, Texas, where he began his professional career in electrical engineering at Texas Instruments. Over the years, he held various positions in manufacturing, procurement, and IT consulting, ultimately retiring as a consultant with Hewlett-Packard Corporation. During his professional career he often talked about going once to Russia and experiencing some of the coldest and harshest weather imaginable. This was a new experience since it rarely snowed more than an inch or two in Hot Springs.
Flynn married his high school sweetheart Carmen Robinson and to this union they were blessed with three daughter, Wanda, Carmeladell, and Alicia. They witnessed how everyone who knew Flynn could attest to how he had a love for people and was always ready to help and give to others. He always found a way to fix thing even if it took days to figure it out, he was just that kind of person. He will be remembered for his love of helping and encouraging others.
During his life, Flynn enjoyed going to the Arkansas Derby In Hot Springs to the point that he was able to encourage his family and friends to go as well. He enjoyed getting with his brother David, Jr. and his father to spend hours to select the winners for the races to follow each day. Flynn was a biker, loved going to the fitness center to work out and sit in the sauna, played tennis and golf, and, while in his vehicle there was always some music going with him singing along with the artist. That singing was a carry-over from singing tenor in the Roanoke Baptist Church Choir, going to Sunday School every Sunday, attending Baptist Training Union in the evening and finally church at night. He was also known to be responsible for ringing the church bell every Sunday morning. The saying is "every time the church doors opened, he was there." Flynn was a member of Silverlake Church, in Pearland, Texas where he was an usher. He was always at the service of others as demonstrated as a volunteer at visitor's desk at Houston Memorial Hospital, Houston, Texas and his works working with the men's prison ministry.
Flynn was preceded in eternal rest by his father, David Jackson, Sr., and mother Marcille Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Wanda Graves of Pearland, Texas, Carmeladell Watkins (Bobby) of Athens, Alabama, Alicia Ngala of Houston, Texas; two grandsons Blake Jackson of Pearland, Texas, Brock Ngala of Houston, Texas; two sisters; Dr. Louise Jones (Arthur) of Jackson, Mississippi, Shirley Thomas of Jackson, Mississippi, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Flynn's memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
