Obituary

On September 19, 1934, the thirteen child of fourteen children to Preston Lee Taylor Sr. and Gladys Gertrude Gills Taylor was born.    Her mother wanting to keep the family names going so she named this child after herself and her sister Verlinda. Thus this baby girl was named Gladys Verlinda Taylor. Gladys was baptized at early age at the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church and sung in the youth choir.  On December 9, 1951, Bobbie Dean Taylor united with Gladys Verlinda Taylor.  Five boys and one daughter came from this union.   Bobbie and Gladys having a strong faith in God raised their family at the Pentecostal Missionary Baptist Church.  Gladys began working in the professional field being employed at Herman Hospital for 7 years.  After leaving Herman Hospital, Gladys began working at Woolco and Woolworth for the span of 15 years and Walgreens for 9 years. Gladys worked diligently at Pentecostal, she sung in the Mass Choir, served as a Sunday School Teacher (ages 9 – 11), a YWA Leader for many, many years, Teacher of the Senior Mission Class Number One,  worked with the Jr. Mission under the leadership of Sis. Beatrice King.  She also worked with the Vacation Bible School and Jr. Church Department (now known as youth church) where she served as a matron. She worked with Citywide Youth Crusade and helped chauffeur the youth to and from practices, Director of BTU, Nursery Leader, served as President of PBC Nurses for 30 plus years and served as a Deaconess.  Gladys' love for God, moved her to work with the Citywide BTU, serve as Vice President of Nurses for South Texas District Association and a member of South Texas District Association Mission 1.  As Gladys' health began to fail her love and commitment for God remain strong.  All of her life, she was taught to love God and vowed to continue to serve Him until she sees HIS face.
