Gloria Belle Kemp was born on June 15, 1947, in Verdunville, Louisiana as the third child of Inez Mandubourg Kemp and Steven Kemp Sr. Her older siblings were Steven Kemp Jr. and Lillian Kemp. During her younger years, she spent time with cousins and her childhood friend, Brenda Joyce Pitt and life-long best friend, Marlene Keller Nathan.
Gloria attended the Morgan City Colored High School, which was later renamed to "Sumpter Williams High School." She often shared her experiences and spoke highly of her older cousin, Hazel Johnson Davis who also served as one of her teachers.
On July 11, 1963, Gloria married William James Roberson, Sr., in Franklin, Louisiana in the home of her late cousins, Leonard and Nellie Marshall. In 1965, Mr. and Mrs. Roberson Sr. moved to the Harrisburg/ Manchester/ Smith neighborhood in Houston, Texas. Gloria and William welcomed two children, William Roberson, Jr., and Stephanie Roberson while living in Harrisburg. She enjoyed sharing stories about the connections and bonds she developed with Jeanette Hardin and the late Harold Roberson Sr., Allen Roberson Sr., Margurite Roberson, Vivian Issac, and Emily "Momma Emily" Robinson.
Gloria was employed by Serve-O-Mation, Foley's, and the Houston Rag Company. In 1975, along with her husband and two children, she moved to the northeast area of Houston, into the Lakewood subdivision. She welcomed a third child, Donnell Roberson, Sr. and eventually retired from East Houston Medical Center, formerly Eastway General Hospital and became CEO of her home. She shared her love through cooking meals, hosting family and friends, and through a smile that radiated joy.
In 1983, Gloria joined the Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor L. E. Driver. She continued her faithful membership and service under the leadership of Pastor Ross M. Cullins Sr., where she served in the women's ministry and faithfully shared peppermints with the members and visitors alike. She later united with the Household of Faith Community Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Kenneth Campbell. She shared expressions of love by sending greeting cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and various special occasions until the Lord called her home.
Gloria was preceded in death by both parents Steven & Inez Kemp, her siblings, Steven, and Lillian Kemp, and her first child William Roberson.
Gloria is survived by her husband, William Roberson Sr, her children William Roberson Jr. (Geneatha), Stephanie Roberson, Donnell Roberson Sr; her grandchildren Monique Womack (Carl Jr.), Christian Burns, Genea Morehead Roberson (Timothy), Donnell Roberson Jr. Quenton Dillings, Kirsten Dillings, Donell P. Roberson; her great grandchildren Kendrick Brady Jr. and Mikkarri Simpson; her Godchild, Harold Roberson Jr.; her cherished cousin Gloria Roberson-Curtis, and a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Gloria's presence and beautiful smile will be missed by many and cherished forever.
