Obituary

Gloria Dean Smith, affectionately known as "Baby Sister" was born in Illesheim, Germany, and was lovingly raised in Houston, Texas.  She was the cherished daughter of Shirley Delores Robinson Smith and Leonard David Smith, Sr., who with open arms, now welcomes her into heaven alongside them.

Gloria was a beloved sister to Lynn Dale Shelly and Leonard Smith Jr., and a treasured aunt to her nieces, Keara Turner, Aleah Brown, Tatyanna Spurlock, and Dawnyale Smith, and her only nephew, Savon Shelly.  She is remembered with fondness by her surviving aunt, Emma Garrett, and her uncles, Thomas Smith, Curtis Smith and Earnest Smith.

Gloria's early education took place at Kelso Elementary School, Johnson Middle School, and Ross Shaw Sterling High School, culminating with her studies at Lamar University.  She embraced her faith at a tender age, accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at seven years old at East Macedonia Baptist Church.  She later became a devoted member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.

A radiant spirit, Gloria's profound love for music was evident throughout her life.  He angelic voice touched many hearts, as she performed at talent shows, weddings, and funerals.  She also graced the stage with the Starlight Band and sang in one of the adult choirs at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.

Gloria's greatest joy came from her children, Tamara, Justin, Colby, and Jordan.  Her boundless love and care for them were evident in everything she did.  Gloria will be remembered for her infectious sense of humor.  She had the rare gift for making everyone around her laugh and feel cherished.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents and brother.  She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Tamara D. Smith, Justin D. Smith, Colby Hall and Jordan Hall, her grandchildren Kehlani Hall and Blake Milliff, her sister, Lynn Dale Shelley and a host of extended family members, loved ones, and friends.

As we remember Gloria, we celebrate her remarkable life filled wit love, laughter, and music.  Her memory will forever be a beacon of joy and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing her.  May her spirit continue to inspire others and her legacy live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
