Born on January 8, 1940 in Galveston, Texas to Virgie Mae and Cecil Gilbert who adored their little girl. Gwen attended George Washington Carver Elementary and graduated from Central High School. She met and married Donald "Big Don" Benson in 1957. From this union Donna Lynette "Lynn" and Debra Michelle were born. She attended and graduated from UTMB as an LVN and worked there until she moved to Houston, where she met and married James "Wiggy" Robinson and from this union in 1974 Erin Nicole Robinson was born. While in Galveston she was baptized and was an active member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church and where she served in the Young Adult choir. She was also an active member, in Houston, of Brentwood Baptist church where she served on the Baptist Women's Committee. As she lived, she was all about Gods' business. She made her heavenly transition on March 6, 2025 succumbing to bone cancer. She expressed her pride for her three girls with special thanks to Debra, Sincere thanks to friends Marion Smith, Dexter Brown, Kiana and Lane Hamilton, Sharon (Dave) Tunick (my sister in heart) and Harper. Gwen is survived by her daughters Lynn, Debra and Erin; grandchildren Cortney, Adrian, Olivia, Meicyn and Madison; great grandchildren Jamaal, Rylynn, Skyler, Harley, Cameryn, King and Journey; cousins Bobby Dean and Jacob Blanchard; sons-in-law Christopher Bailey and Edward Wiley. Gwen is preceded in death by her father Cecil Gilbert, mother Virgie Gilbert, aunts Rubye Dean and Agnes Porch and cousins Esther Johnson and Patricia Dean. Gwen was an avid Machine Embroider, which gave her joy and touched the lives of many people. Gwen will be sorely missed and cherished by all who knew her.
