Rev. Howard Sims was born November 18, 1950, in Houston, Texas to Boss and Annetta Sims. He was the oldest of 11 children. He was a graduate of Worthing High School Class of 1970. In 1970 he was drafted into the United States Army where he served for two years. He joined The Houston Fire Department in 1974 where he proudly served 29 years. He served as a Firefighter as well as a Paramedic. While serving in the HFD, he was a founding member of the Houston Black Firefighters Association and served on the committee for over 20 years. He also chaired the committee of the historic Black Firefighters Ball.
Howard accepted his calling into the Ministry in 2000. He served as a Deacon and Minister at Kashmere Gardens Missionary Baptist Church for several years under the leadership of the late Pastor Gene A. Canada. Later he joined New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of friend and Pastor, Benjamin Price. Howard was respected as a valuable asset and devoted leader of service.
Howard was dedicated to the community, family and church. For over 15 years, Howard coached little league football, boys Basketball, and committed to improving the lives of every young man that God placed in his path.
He is preceded in death by parents, Boss Sr. and Annetta; Sister, Ruby; Brother, Boss Jr; Beloved Niece, Racquel; and Sister-In-Law, Rhann
He leaves a devoted wife, Katrina; Five Children, Howard, Jr. "Sneaky" (Tiffany); Sonceria "Tane" (Jamal); Jeremy "Pete" (Alexia); Tiffany and Veriee "Nikki" (Damion), 8 Siblings, Thelma (Ronald); Herbert (Patricia); Judy (Walter); Grace; Anthony (Andrea); Reginald (Kathy); Jo (Sylvester); Patrick Sr. (Mattie); 2 Brother In Laws; Lionel Roderick, Eric (Tammy) and Uncle David (his only living uncle). 13 Grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and a plethora of nieces, nephews, family and friends that will miss him dearly.
