Iris Barbaranette
Cornelious
Jul 9, 1958 — Aug 5, 2025
Iris B. Cornelious was born July 9,1958, in Chicago, IL to Edgar Edwards and Bennie M. Edwards. She was their only child together. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, cousin and friend.
Iris was baptized at age 12yrs old at Gorham United Methodist Church in Chicago, Illinois where she attended with her mother. She was also apart of the "Gorham Girls" which consisted of Joan, Diann, Diane B. and Eve Lynn. We still love Iris to this day. She represented Christ in her living to all that knew her. She was a light in this world.
Iris received her education from the Chicago Public School System. She later graduated with her Master Degree in teaching in Houston, TX. Iris got her passion for teaching from her mother who also was a teacher. She was so creative and gifted with sharing education with children and she loved it. Iris excelled in everything that she did.
Iris met the love of her life, Mike through Joan and it was "instant true love" that would last for years to come! In June 1978, she was united in holy matrimony to her loving husband Gregory "Mike" Cornelious and to this union two sons were born. Craig Michael and Martel Terry.
In 1982, Iris, her husband Mike and son Craig moved to Houston and continued her education graduating with a Masters Degree in teaching and became an amazing Montessori elementary school teacher. After 35 years, she retired in 2015. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, dog and grandchildren.
She was a loving, caring, happy person. She truly loved her family and friends. She was a woman of strength and wisdom and was always there for her family and friends. Iris left a lasting impression on her family and friends and always gave the best advice.
On Tuesday, August 5, 2025 in God's infinite wisdom he called her home.
