Obituary

Ivory June (Johnson) Davis, affectionately known as "June", daughter of the late Eugene and Everett Randle Johnson, was born on October 10, 1940, in Houston, Texas.

She confirmed her faith at an early age at Good Hope Baptist Church in Third Ward of Houston, Texas. After graduating with honors from Houston Independent School District Booker T. Washington High School in 1956, June was awarded an academic scholarship to Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. On January 16, 1962, she was united in matrimony to Henry G. Davis, Jr. This union was blessed with two children. While working full-time and raising young children, June earned a Master of Education degree from Texas Southern University in 1977 and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 1982. She had an impactful 44-year teaching and counseling career, touching the lives of hundreds of youths within the Houston Independent School District. Her reach spanned from Attucks, Dowling, and Woodson Middle Schools to Worthing and Sterling High Schools. After retirement, June enjoyed traveling, reading, and being the "resident expert" on all things CNN. June was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Everett. She leaves behind her daughter, Dr. Kelly June Davis Karlsson (Arne), devoted son, Henry G. Davis, III (Traci), and loving life-partner, Freddy Little, who all greatly mourn her loss. June was the proud grandmother of Jasmine Mariah Davis, Quinten Rashaun Davis (Delanah), and Taylor June Davis, as well as the great-grandmother of Sevyn Quinn Davis. She leaves to mourn her a loving brother, Jimmy Eugene Johnson, sister Barbara Linda Johnson Miller, and a host of close family and friends.

Ivory June Davis, 83, left us after a strong-fought battle with ovarian cancer. To carry on her legacy as an educator, please help to promote awareness of this disease and support ovarian cancer research.
