James Edward Hicks departed this world October 29, 2020, at his home in Missouri City, Texas.

Jim was born May 18, 1939 in Claiborne County, Mississippi, the youngest of 3 sons, to Gus and Sadie Hicks. At an early age, they moved to East Chicago, Indiana, where the family became a pillar of the community.

Jim was a natural athlete, starring in football and baseball at Roosevelt High School. He graduated class of 1958 and went on to the University of Illinois. He then began his professional baseball career, playing for the Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, and Los Angeles Angels organizations. He also enlisted in the US Army Reserve, and worked for Continental Airlines for over 30 years, where he was a familiar face to all that traveled in and out of Intercontinental Airport.

Jim Hicks was a tall and bright light, whose infectious laugh and overwhelming energy shined on everyone around him. He was the epitome of selflessness, and served God, his country, and his family faithfully.

He was preceded in death by his father Gus, mother Sadie, and first wife Odeal.

Jim is survived by his wife, Ruth Tinker Hicks; brother, Elijah "Pete" Hicks, Decatur, GA; brother, Gus "GW" Hicks (Dorothy) Whiteville, TN; daughter, Donya Hicks, East Chicago, IN; son, Steve Hicks, Calumet City, IL; daughter, DeAhn Smith (Mathew) Merriville, IN; son, Broderick Hicks (Kelley), New York, NY; son, Carlton Hicks (Lindsay), District Heights, MD; son, Jarrett Hicks (Tana) Dallas, TX; 6 grandchildren and countless family and friends that will miss him dearly.
