It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Alfred Hinton Sr, a beloved father, husband, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, who departed this life on November 27 2024 at the age of 58.
James was born in Bexar County Texas to Mrs. Leona Warren and Alphonso Hinton on April 28, 1966 and moved to the Houston area where he attended Jack Yates High School and graduated in 1984. From humble beginnings, he grew into a remarkable individual known for his hard work, kindness, wisdom, generosity, and dedication. He lived a life full of purpose, defined by his unwavering commitment to his family, his work, and his community. James served 7 years in the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged.
James attended the University of Houston where he majored in education before becoming a teacher who dedicated over 15 years to HISD. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and excellence. Beyond his professional achievements, he was most proud of the family he built and cherished.
Above all, James was a man of love and devotion. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and strength, carried forward by his children James Hinton Jr, Brittany Hinton, Ashley Hinton, Zion Hinton and Crystal Lawson, his grandchildren, James Hinton III, Jamiah Hinton, Koby Dabney Jr, Logan Broussard, Terrence Darby Jr, Chase Hinton-Darby, Dallas Darby, Jayla Williams, Jaylen Hill, and Malikaih McDaniel, his mother Leona Warren, his siblings, Kiesa Hinton-Metoyer, Tonya Sykes, Monica Robinson, and Alfred Brown and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Alphonso Hinton, grandparents Janie Blake and Leon Blake, and grandchildren Jamari Hinton and Jamar Hinton.
Though his absence leaves a void that can never be filled, we are comforted by the countless memories of his love, laughter, and wisdom. He will remain forever in our hearts.
