Obituary

James P. Miller Jr., affectionately known as "WeeGee" to his family, passed away peacefully on June 13th, 2025. Born on July 4, 1950, on the resort island of Galveston, Texas, James entered the world with a spirit as vibrant as the fireworks that marked his birthday. From the very beginning, he shared an inseparable bond with his older brother and lifelong best friend, Jesse Miller.

He was the second child born to the union of James Paul Miller Sr. and Flora Dell Parker Miller, and although his early years were spent near the breeze of Galveston, the family later relocated to Houston, Texas, where James would come of age. He attended Crispus Attucks Middle School and Evan E. Worthing High School, where he proudly played football under the legendary Coach Oliver "Showboat" Brown.

After graduating, James answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy, where he served with honor from 1972 to 1976, achieving the rank of E4 before being honorably discharged. Following his military service, he began building a life and legacy in Washington, D.C., where he would enjoy a distinguished career working for both the United States Department of Defense and General Electric.

It was in Washington that his lifelong loyalty to the Washington Redskins (now Commanders) was born—a die-hard fan to the very end.

Upon retirement, James returned home to Texas to be closer to the family he loved so dearly. Known for his gifted hands and generous heart, he became the go-to "weekend warrior," to his family and friends, always willing to lend his skills to family and friends. Whether fixing or building, James embodied the true spirit of one of the original DIY'ers long before it became a trend.

WeeGee leaves this earth leaving a legacy of unconditional love to his family, extended family and friends. To his family he was a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a friend, a voice of reason, a safety net, a historian, a father figure, and so much more. But most importantly he was a great human being!

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Robert and Mary Lou Miller, Jesse Woods Parker and Martha Green Parker, his parents James P. Miller Sr. and Flora Dell Ward, and his brothers Jesse S. Miller and Horace Denmore.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in the hearts of those who survive him:
His siblings, Brenette Denmore Dilworth (Alfonzo Jr.), Joseph B. Doswell (LaTonya), Craig J. Doswell (ReVetta), Kenneth P. Miller, Robert E. Miller, and Linda P. Miller; his stepdaughter Kimberly Rollins; and a beloved circle of nieces and nephews including Garland K. Simmons, Chandra E. Miller, Krisla Miller Sharpe (Tamarron), Ashley M. Dilworth, Felicia R. Dilworth, Dylan A. Dilworth, Adrianne L. Doswell-Sanchez (Wilfredo Jr.), Brandon J. Mendibles-Doswell (Christopher), Jacorik Davis, Jason K. Doswell, and Trevor J. Doswell.

Add to that a multitude of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends—all touched by his humility, strength, and goodness.

Though his physical presence may be gone, the love and wisdom of James P. Miller Jr.—our WeeGee—will live on in every life he touched.

"To know him was to love him, and to be loved by him was a BLESSING BEYOND MEASURE."

In lieu of flowers, WeeGee had previously requested prior to his passing that donations be made to The American Heart Association in the name of his mother, Flora Dell Ward.

We will be spreading WeeGee's ashes into the waters of East Beach, Galveston Texas. For any family or friends wanting to join we will be meeting Sunday, July 6, 2025 at 1:30 pm at Walgreens, 308 Seawall Blvd., Galveston, Tx 77550. We will depart at 2 pm to the East Beach on Boddeker Rd.
