Jamesetta Ingram Mackey Jackson was born on October 24, 1943, in Weimar, Texas Colorado County. She was delivered by her maternal great grandmother, Mrs. Laura Morrow, who she grew to love so much as her Big Mama. Jamesetta was the eldest child of seven children born to her parents, Mr. James and Mrs. Eugene Ingram. She was a blessing to her family all the days of her life.
In the early years of her life the family moved to Houston, Texas and settled in a small but loving neighborhood called Piney Point. Jamesetta chose to remain in Weimar, Texas and lived with her paternal grandfather and grandmother, Mr. Miles (Sgt.) and Mrs. Bertha Ingram whom she lovingly called Mama and Papa, as well as with her only first cousin at the time, Martha L. Washington. Jamesetta enjoyed her days in Weimar and completed the third grade there at Carl Down School, before moving home with her family so that she could go to school with her little brother, Robert. In Weimar Texas, she was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church and confessed Christ to be her Savior at the family's home church in Houston, Union Bethel A.M. E. Church.
She completed her elementary school days at Piney Point Elementary School, Booker T. Washington, Junior /Senior High School. The children of Piney Point were bused to Evan E. Worthing where she met many new classmates and lifelong friends and graduated in the class of 1961. During her junior year she traveled to Los Angeles, California with the History Club, after which she had a yearning to live in California.
Jamesetta met and married a young man from her neighborhood, Mr. Eddie Lee (Dick) Mackey on September 29, 1962. In 1964 they moved to San Francisco, California. To this marriage they had two extremely sweet and precious little girls, Sharon Rene and Theresa Laverne. Sharon unfortunately passed after a brief time but how the Mackey's enjoyed being parents to Theresa Laverne Mackey. The marriage ended yet they loved and co-parented Theresa until the death of Mr. Mackey.
Jamesetta worked for the United States Postal Service and retired in 1999 after 33 years of service. Jamesetta always 'Danced to The Beat of Her Own Drum.' She was always the life of the party and gave many parties whether they were for Christmas, New Years or Theresa' s Birthday. She would always cook great soul food dinners for Christmas and New Years.
In June 1981, she married Mr. Joseph C Jackson. During this time, she became the doting E-Ma to her only granddaughter, Erika Nicole Lewis. Theresa and Erika were her entire world for many years. But she also became a foster parent for Antanika and Antionette Perry, And, oh how she loved caring for those two girls as well. Jamesetta moved from San Francisco to the Oakland East Bay Area when she married Joe, and she remained in the East Bay for many years.
Jamesetta began traveling and she especially loved to cruise. She has cruised to the Bahamas, Eastern Caribbean Island, Hawaii, the Mediterranean, Spain, London and all over Mexico. She would proudly say that she had taken 12 cruises and formed lifelong relationships with many other new friends.
Shortly after she retired, she worked at Solomon's Barbecue Restaurant in California. She was a lover of cooking, baking, eating good food, attending musical concerts and watching television with the remotes always in her hand. On many occasions she catered for her friends and co-workers.
On May 1, 2010, Jamesetta returned to live in Houston, Texas after 46 years of living in California. However, while in California she was an active member of several churches. She moved home to be close to her mother and siblings. She was a caregiver to her siblings as children and after she returned home, she cared for her siblings and Mother during their health challenges. She lived by her motto of "If I can help somebody, why not."
Upon returning to Houston, Jamesetta joined her beloved church, Jones Memorial United Methodist Church also known as the Higher Way Church under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth Levingston. She would also visit other churches along with her beloved mother, Mother Eugene Ingram and her sister, Rev. Janet Howard. She loved living life her way, cooking was her passion, especially making her famous Peanut and Pecan Brittle. Meeting and greeting new people was her joy and her lifelong girlfriends were Jane Wilkerson, Lou Ethel Caldwell Miller, Betty Ward, Mary Lourent and Eliza Stein. She loved dancing anytime or anywhere she heard music, especially the music of Stevie Wonder.
She lived a long and great life, giving her all until her health began to fail. Jamesetta will forever be loved, remembered and missed by her loving family and her many friends from the Post Office and throughout California and the United States. She will remain in all our hearts until we meet again, certainly to know her was to love her because she never met a stranger.
Jamesetta has now joined a great cloud of witnesses including her loving father, Mr. James Ingram and mother, Mrs. Eugene A. Ingram, her precious Mama and Papa Ingram, her special aunt, Rosie L. Miller and her three brothers, Joseph H., Raymond L. and Eugene A. Ingram, along with many other family members.
She will forever live on in the precious memories of her loving daughter, Theresa L. Lewis (Darren) and her precious granddaughter, Erika Nicole Lewis, all of Hayward, California. Her devoted sister, Rev. Janet K. Howard of Houston, Texas, her loving brothers Robert Lloyd (Patricia) of Seabrook, Texas and Miles Edward Ingram (Linda) of Shreveport, Louisiana, two sisters-in-law, Jessie Elaine Ingram of Pearland,TX. and Olenda Ruth Ingram of Houston along with many nieces, nephews, and many other special relatives and friends.
