JoAnn Melancon, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, in Pearland, Texas surrounded by love. Born on December 10, 1960, in New Orleans, Louisiana. JoAnn was the cherished youngest daughter of Robert A. Melancon and Doris M. Sewell, both of whom preceded her in death. she was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Amos B. Sewell.
JoAnn's early years were spent in Waco, Texas, where she embraced her faith at Greater Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. A proud graduate a Richfield High School in 1978, she pursued her passion for helping others at McClennon community College, earning her certification as a nurse's aide this marked the beginning of a dedicated career in the medical field, culminating in a 28-year tenure with the Memorial Hermann Hospital System. She retired from Memorial Hermann Orthopedics and Spine Hospital in March of 2024.
JoAnn is survived by her devoted daughter, Rejina E. Richards of Houston, Texas, her loving sister, Nell M. Roberson of Missouri City, Texas, and her cherished niece, Kelly N. Roberson of Austin Texas. She leaves behind a host of family and friends who will forever remember her spirit and laughter.
Her life will be celebrated with the support of honorary pallbearers, her cousins: Ira Peoples, III, Donald Ray Peoples, Richard Peoples, Sr., Louis R. Grant, and Timothy Bradford. Cremation and memorial services are entrusted to Troy B. Smith Professional Services with Minister Vincent Stewart, officiating.
