Obituary

On March 29, 2026, the Lord, in His infinite wisdom, called from labor to reward. Johnnie B. “Ducky” Davis, who peacefully departed this life at her home at the blessed age of 100 years.

Johnnie B. Davis was born on September 28, 1925 in Egypt, Texas, to Johnny and Alberta Anderson. She was a woman of grace, dignity, and unwavering faith. Her life was a beautiful testimony of love, devotion, hospitality, and steadfast service to God, her family, and all who knew her. She lived a long and fruitful life, and her presence was truly a blessing to many.

Mrs. Davis was known for her warm heart and loving spirit. Her home was always open to family, friends, and neighbors who stopped by for a visit, where a slice of her delicious pound cake and tea cakes were often ready to be served. On bright and pleasant days, she could often be found sitting on her porch, working in her yard, greeting friends and neighbors with a smile, a kind word, and a gracious spirit. She was beloved by many, and the warmth of her presence will be cherished always.

A little known fact is Mrs. Johnnie B. Davis started her career at Houston Methodist Hospital in The Texas Medical Center and retired as a part of Dr. Michael DeBakey’s world renown Cardiology Team.

Sis. Johnnie B. Davis was a charter member of Blueridge Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, where she served faithfully for 71 years. She loved the Lord and loved His church serving as a dedicated Sunday School teacher for the Junior Boys Class and the Young Adult Class, sharing biblical truth, encouragement, and wisdom with those entrusted to her care. She also served in mission work as a faithful member of the Dorcas Circle, demonstrating her love for God through service to others.

Ducky was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ned Davis, Sr, and only son, Ned Davis, Jr., her granddaughter, Kathy Monroe, great-grandson, Nassan Davis, and her siblings.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving children: Billie J. Davis Woods (Emmett), Carolyn Davis Monroe-Riley, Alberta Yvonne Davis Jones, and Marie Davis Hammond (Roy); grandchildren, Ronald B. Woods, Sr., Nathaniel E. Davis, Sr. (Kim), Michael G. Davis, Sr. (LaQuana), and Alicia Y. Stevens; 10 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, special friends, church family, neighbors, and many whose lives were touched by her kindness and faith.

Johnnie B. “Ducky” Davis will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her loving heart, her faithful service, and her enduring walk with the Lord. She was a devoted mother, a treasured grandmother, a faithful church worker, and a beloved friend. Her life has left a rich legacy of faith, love, and Godly example that will continue to live on through the generations.

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in the blessed assurance that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8 NKJV.)
