Celebrating the Life of Jose Ascension Mendoza Jr.

September 2, 1959 – July 20, 2026"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Jose Ascension "Joe" Mendoza Jr., a devoted husband, loving father, cherished Paw Paw, faithful son, brother, and friend, who entered into the presence of Jesus on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 11:25 p.m., surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.Joe was born on September 2, 1959, in Hidalgo County, Texas, to Jose Ascension Mendoza Sr. and Aracelia Mendoza. As the oldest of five children, he naturally embraced the role of protector, leader, and example to his siblings: Michael Mendoza, Cindy Mendoza, Matthew Mendoza, and Linda Mendoza. He loved his family fiercely and remained devoted to them throughout his life.On January 6, 1978, Joe married the love of his life, Angela Mae Sam. For more than forty-eight years, they built a marriage founded on unwavering commitment, sacrifice, and unconditional love. Together, they created a home where family was always life's greatest blessing.Joe was the proud father of Kayla Nicole Mendoza and Faith Marie Mendoza, whom he loved beyond measure. Yet if you asked him what title brought him the greatest joy, he would have answered without hesitation—Paw Paw. His grandchildren, Jace Heir and Journey Haydin, were the light of his life. Every moment spent with them was a treasure, and his love for them knew no bounds. To know Joe was to know kindness. He possessed a warm spirit that welcomed everyone and a generous heart that never hesitated to help someone in need. He was hardworking, dependable, humble, and resilient. Whether providing for his family, encouraging a friend, or quietly serving those around him, Joe demonstrated that love is best expressed through faithful actions. He adopted so many into his family For many years, Joe courageously battled cancer. Yet cancer never became his identity. His life was defined not by the illness he faced, but by the strength with which he faced it. Through countless treatments, setbacks, victories, and prayers, he continued to fight with dignity, perseverance, and unwavering faith. His resilient spirit became an inspiration to everyone privileged to witness his journey.Above all else, Joe loved his family. His greatest accomplishments were not measured by earthly achievements but by the lives he touched, the family he nurtured, and the legacy of faith, love, generosity, and perseverance he leaves behind.Joe was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Andres DeLeon and Maria Escamilla, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life.He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Angela Mae Mendoza; his daughters, Kayla Nicole Mendoza and Faith Marie Mendoza (Elijah); his honorary daughters, Shanice Jones and Ree'Kenna Hill; his treasured grandchildren, Jace Heir and Journey Haydin; his parents, Jose Ascension Mendoza Sr. and Aracelia Mendoza; his siblings, Michael Mendoza, Cindy Mendoza (Ron), Matthew Mendoza, and Linda Mendoza (Kristy); along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by his kindness and love.Although our hearts are broken, we do not grieve without hope. We rejoice knowing that the cancer he fought so bravely no longer has any hold on him. He has been made completely whole. He now walks in perfect peace, free from pain and suffering, in the presence of his Savior. His absence will be deeply felt around every family gathering, every holiday table, and every milestone yet to come. Yet his legacy will continue in every lesson he taught, every sacrifice he made, every laugh he shared, and every life he impacted. We will remember him not only for the years he lived, but for the love he gave so freely.Daddy. Husband. Paw Paw.Thank you for showing us what steadfast love, quiet strength, faithfulness, resilience, and generosity look like. Thank you for every sacrifice you made, every lesson you taught, every embrace that brought comfort, and every prayer you whispered over our family. You loved us well, and because you did, we are better for it.Though we will miss hearing your voice, seeing your smile, and feeling your presence beside us, we rejoice knowing that you are finally home. Your race is finished. Your battle is over. Your body has been made whole, and your faith has become sight.Until we meet again, we will carry your legacy in our hearts. We will love deeply, serve faithfully, fight courageously, and honor your life by living the values you modeled every day.You will always be our Daddy. You will always be our Husband. You will always be our Paw Paw.We love you, and we will see you again."Well done, good and faithful servant...
