Joshlyn Deneen Bruce was a beloved wife, devoted mother, faithful servant of God, and a woman whose gentle spirit and beautiful heart left an everlasting impression on everyone blessed to know her.

Joshlyn was born on January 18, 1965, in Houston, Texas, to the late Vernet Thomas and Timothy Collins. On August 17, 2026, she peacefully departed this life at the age of 61.

Joshlyn attended M.B. Smiley High School, where she was a member of the NJROTC, and proudly graduated with the Class of 1983.

From a young age, Joshlyn dedicated her life to Christ. Her relationship with God remained the foundation of her life throughout her journey. She was a steadfast woman of faith who believed wholeheartedly in the power of prayer. Her faith could be seen not only in the words she spoke, but in the way she loved, encouraged, supported, and cared for those around her.

Joshlyn later joined Fallbrook Church under the leadership of Pastor Michael Pender, where she continued in her walk with Christ.

On February 24, 1992, Joshlyn married Reginald Bruce Sr. From their union came two of her greatest blessings and proudest accomplishments: her son, Reginald Bruce II, and her daughter, Taylor Bruce. Being a mother was one of Joshlyn’s greatest joys. She loved her children deeply and supported them unwaveringly, always offering a listening ear, wise counsel, encouragement, and, above all, prayer.

Professionally, Joshlyn began her career as a Motor Bank Teller at Klein Bank, now known as Amegy Bank of Texas. She faithfully served in the banking industry for more than 20 years before retiring.

Those who knew Joshlyn knew that she had a deep appreciation for fashion and took great pride in her appearance. She carried herself with class, confidence, and grace, always presenting herself with elegance and care. Her radiant smile, warm presence, and gentle spirit reflected a beauty that extended far beyond her outward appearance.

Joshlyn also possessed a special gift for creating beauty in the spaces around her. She enjoyed decorating her home and lovingly tending to her garden. She particularly cherished the fragrance of fresh lilies and roses, as well as the beautiful aroma that filled her home whenever her son brought her flowers.

Among Joshlyn’s favorite pastimes were visits to DD’s and Plants For All Seasons. She especially enjoyed searching the clearance racks for plants that needed a little extra care and attention. She would bring them home, nurture them, and take great pleasure in watching them flourish. This was an activity she particularly enjoyed sharing with her identical twin sister, Jacqueline “Jacque” Greene. Their simple outings together became treasured experiences, creating cherished memories that will forever remain a meaningful part of Joshlyn’s legacy.

Family meant everything to Joshlyn. She especially loved the holidays and the opportunity they provided for everyone to gather around the table, share a meal, laugh, and simply enjoy being together. The kitchen was another place where memories were made. Joshlyn enjoyed cooking alongside her family and sharing beloved family recipes with the next generation. As she would jokingly call it, she was “passing the torch.”

Joshlyn will forever be remembered for her gentle spirit, wise counsel, beautiful heart, radiant smile, unwavering support of her children, and her steadfast love for God and family. She had a way of nurturing the people around her much like the plants she lovingly cared for—with patience, tenderness, attention, and love.

Joshlyn was preceded in death by her parents, Vernet Thomas and Timothy Collins; her sister, Betsy Thomas; and her beloved identical twin sister, Jacqueline Greene.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted husband, Reginald Bruce Sr.; her loving children, Reginald Bruce II and Taylor Bruce; her maternal siblings, Terence Blackshure, Henry Thomas, and Aniecea Thomas; her paternal siblings, Tammy Collins and Dana Bradley; her goddaughter, Erica Greene; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Though our hearts are heavy and her earthly presence will be deeply missed, we rejoice in knowing that Joshlyn is now in the presence of the Lord whom she so dearly loved and faithfully served.

Her love remains in the family she cherished.Her lessons remain in the lives she touched.Her prayers remain a covering over her children.And her legacy of faith, family, grace, and love will continue for generations to come.
