Karen Lynne
Williams
Nov 9, 1954 — Jul 8, 2025
On November 9, 1954, Karen Lynne was born to the proud parents of Hattie Mae and Otha Johnson in Kenner, Louisiana. The blessing of growing up in a Christian home made an indelible impact on her values and morals. It was the beginning of a beautiful life of love and devotion to service.
At the tender age of six, Karen accepted Jesus Christ into her life. Upon her profession of faith in Him, she was baptized at New Macedonia Baptist Church by Pastor Murphy Bowman. It was under his leadership that she received her spiritual foundation that anchored her spiritual journey for the rest of her life.
Karen began her educational pursuit at Washington Elementary school, Ralph Bunche Middle School and graduated from Riverdale High School. During her early years, she also became an accomplished pianist and vocalist. Karen was a perfectionist and always sought to be the best at her craft. Upon graduating from high school, she entered Southern University at New Orleans where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano and Voice.
Music was her life! She was the Minister of Music at the Church where she was baptized. She and her best friend, the late Reverend Ronald Materre, founded The Gospel Choralettes, one of the greatest choirs in Jefferson Parish. She was a lead vocalist in the Saint Thomas Original Singers and The International Voices of Praise. Perhaps, one of her greatest contributions to Kingdom was her service as Minister of Music at New Faith Church. Her giftedness, precision and love for people revitalized the music ministry. She later went on to serve as Minister of Music at Christian Bible Church, Pastor Rudolph White, Jr. and Saint Luke Church, Pastor Harvey Walker. Karen later joined Higher Dimension Church, Pastor Terrance Johnson, where she served with heart, humility, and excellence as a team leader in Eagles Ministry.
Karen loved God and serving Him was the joy of her life. It was always remarkable how she embraced people. She especially poured her life into young people which was evident by her time as an educator. Karen taught at many schools around the Houston area. She served as an elementary and middle school teacher in both Fort Bend and Houston Independent School Districts, finishing her career as a special needs teacher at Sterling High School
Karen, while married to Dr T R Williams, Sr gave birth to her only son, Lance. There was no one as special to her as Lance. He was her greatest joy. The beauty of their relationship was an undeniable reality. She was a proud and devoted mother.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Hattie Mae Johnson; her father, Otha Johnson; her stepmother, Carolyn Johnson; and brother, Jessie B. Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Lance E. Williams (Muriel); bonus children Monique Williams, Ted Williams, (Tarkitha), sister, Nicole Bell (Steve), nephews Troy and Dylan Bell, grandchildren; Alynncia, Angel, Aubryelle, Brittany, Desmond, Jameel, Jeremiah and Noah.
Karen (Mama K, Klynn) was a woman of elegance, excellence and extra ordinary grace. She fought the good fight, kept the faith and finished her race. Though she has taken her place in the Heavenly choir, her voice and her love will echo in the hearts and lives of all who knew her.
She will be remembered not only for her musical abilities, but also for her strength and unwavering faith in the power of God and His ability to do the impossible.
