Obituary

On Thursday September 24, 1970, a beautiful bouncing baby girl with a full head of curly black hair, was born to Lillian Harrington and David Lee Laws at 10:46p in Houston TX. Kefflynne Dechelle Harrington was the name her other gave to her. Kefflynne exhibited traits of brilliance as a young baby. She would do so many unbelievable acts and gestures to entertain her mom and family. Douglass elementary is where she started kindergarten; her teacher noticed that she already knew everything that she was teaching. Her teacher, Mrs Brummett, sent a message to her mother to see if Kefflynne could be tested and possibly skipped to the 1st grade and her mom agreed. Kefflynne scored very high on the test and she was skipped to the 1st grade immediately. Kefflynne performed very well in the 1st grade making straight A's. Kefflynne was smart and gifted and even excelled in piano lessons;  however she didn't really like playing the piano. Kefflynne attended Johnston Middle School (now Meyerland Middle School), where she played the flute, earning 1st chair!  Although zoned to Westbury High School, Kefflynne's parents could not convince her to go there. She had to attend "THE" Jack Yates High School in 3rd ward; she graduated with honors in 1988 from the School of Communication (SOC). Her passion for music began early on as she could always identify various instruments in songs. She loved Michael Jackson, New Edition, Isley Bros, Biggie, Anita Baker and Phil Collins along with many other genres of music. She was always an avid reader and had an unlimited thirst for knowledge. After losing some of her vision, she began to order numerous audible books. No one was stopping her from reading!!!   Christianity was always important to her at an early age. That foundation was started under the leadership of Rev Dr F.A. Allen at Greater Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she was baptized and accepted Christ at the age of 12. After graduating high school, she attended Barclay Business School and was then hired by Chevron Corp, where she held several leadership positions, including the 1st trainer in the computer lab. While working at Chevron, she began taking college courses at UofH Main; she continued her studies at  UofH downtown, earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in 2008. Unfortunately, Kefflynne began to experience some health issues, including, but not limited to, legal blindness and Multiple Sclerosis. She was always a strong fighter and  determined to persevere at whatever she pursued.  In spite of the health challenges, Kefflynne continued until she received her Master of Education Counseling degree in 2012.

Kefflynne was preceded in death by her dad, David Laws, maternal grandparents, Robbie Hall Harrington, Wright C Harrington Sr, paternal grandparents, Ruby Laws, Charlie Laws, uncles, Lonnie B Harrington (Beatrice), Genorise Harrington (Betty), Godmother Harriet Dillard Freeman.

Kefflynne leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted mother Lillian Harrington, aunts, Bonnie Preston, Corall Harrington, Beverly Willis, uncles, Wright C Harrington Jr, Alvin Anderson(Odessa), sister, Britney Laws, brothers, Charles Smith (Leronica), Drew Laws(Vanessa), Jonathon Laws (Cecilia), Godson, Frank Bookman, nieces, Kionna Bluitt, Kamille Washington, Grace Laws, nephews Quindon Smith, Marcus Smith, Ka'Mauri Laws, Ethan Laws.
